Re: baskets hilts for the early period
Fight with hilts or baskets or gauntlets. IMO, any contrivance for safety for early period portrayals looks silly. Gauntlets and giant panda gloves or whatever all look just as bad as baskets. Use what you like, and don't worry about it. Nothing will look right to everyone, so do what you want, and...

Sure, and next thing you know they're slapping these on a hyper alloy combat chassis hooked up to a computer system with a mad on for the human race. Why don't we just graft some cybernetic parts on to AI controlled monkeys infected with the rage virus while we're at it?

Yeah, my stuff wears like clothes... the weight is very evenly distributed.
However, my recommendation... wear it. A lot. Have your body get used to the weight, and how it changes your momentum and movement.

I don't disdain it. It's a sword. Swords are pointy.
I don't rely on it. It would be hard to... I suck at thrusting just as much as I suck at hitting.

What he's asking for is a drawing illustrating the armour requirements... the areas that are required to be covered by rigid materials based on the rules.

Dougale, I don't think that was the point of the responses. Your offer is very generous. The way you phrased it, however, made some feel defensive of VDK, who have been kind enough to run this tourney for years, and provide the prizes. Olaf (your Pennsic neighbor as well) quote="Dougale MacAles...
