Re: Laminated Rattan vs Split Rattan polearm
I've been fighting with one that I made right after Pennsic... still holding up. I've not had any complaints about it hitting weird. However... I fight it more like a spear... I mostly thrust, with some cutting, rather than the other way around, which is atypical I guess. Damn if I know if it is leg...

Well... you can use a shield to bash or punch... just not the other fighter. Their shield or weapon, yes... as long as you don't endanger their safety.

Re: Laminated Rattan vs Split Rattan polearm
This line makes me disagree with your assessment of boar spears... "Polearms may contain blades constructed of split rattan, so long as the piece(s) are securely fastened to the haft" That sounds like it specifically included separate split pieces, not just a piece of rattan split to make ...

Re: Electronically regulated and standardized calibration
I'm curious to see how measured force compares to perceived. There was a guy doing force measurement at Hundred Minutes... and one of the weapons people complain hits hard... my axe... was actually one of the lowest measured force weapons on the day. But not for actual competition. Would not feel ri...

It's like wearing a radiator. Full of holes so you get a breeze, and doesn't hold heat to your body.

I don't... I take the field in 40lbs of steel, wearing linen and wool, using the closest approximation to the weapons my persona would have had I can within the rules of our game. I did a little more research than a Dagorhir manual and an Osprey book. I like the clothing, I like the gear, I like the...

The knee coverage is much better than it looks... I've actually had knee problems in the past (not SCA related) and take pretty good care of them. As for the thighs... I won't mention it. I also don't tell people I take legs as kills till after they hit me there. If I do, they avoid them, and I don'...

Meh. Sometimes, people need to be knocked on their arse.

Everything short of that is acceptable, and your decision of how aggressively to fight should be based only on tactical considerations.

Seax in a more or less horizontal sheath. This is not mine, but I made this one, and I carry mine the same way.

OK, up for auction is an SCA legal rondel dagger inspired by this: m Rattan is turned to between 1/2-3/4" on the handle, which is made of steel and copper. Pommel 2 layers of steel w/ leather sandwiched between. I have not yet taped the blade... I can cut it and tape it to your specified length...

Always. The only time I do not have it on is if a tournament specifically disallows backups. Also... I practice with it. Just practice drawing and firing. If you've got a backup on you can't draw without thinking or fumbling... it's useless. http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/gg228/olafharaldson/Fig...
