I spend half of Pennsic in my mundane footwear... but in my case, that's barefoot. Also, gel insoles are great inside turnshoes. They add a little bit of shock absorption, and a little bit of cushioning. +1 Bah! Callouses are more authentic (oddly my turnshoes never give me blisters...) -Derian. ins...

I have never marshaled Estrella, but I have put in a pretty solid amount of time in marshaling Pennsic. When a marshal tells you to unass an area of the field, it is generally because they have been told by Marshal 1 to get people off the field. Even if there's no archery, things move fast. It can g...

No worries... you just panicked us, we thought we were gonna have to clean house. I known I am kind of an outsider in this but I saw some pics from that event and I saw lots of SCA tablecloth ass banners. I honestly dont know, but are those really accurate? I am glad to see the SCA strive for a more...

You can: 4. An effective blow to the leg above the knee will disable the leg. The fighter must then fight kneeling, sitting, or standing on the foot of the uninjured leg. I take legs as fight enders. I say good, salute, and that's it. I don't tell people before... they then tend to avoid the legs, w...

See... I guess I'm the other side of the coin. I take it as an compliment if I get jumped by four rather than being single combat... means I'm a threat. This year during the rapier plateau battle, there was one red taped fighter left alive. I ran up to him, and he looked at me... before he could ask...

I have. We played with it outside official SCA practices. I like it. The reason we pad thrusting tips is due the the reduced surface area at the point of contact. While our armor is intended to reduce the trauma of impact, our weapon construction and safety features are intended to reduce the impact...

Yeah, I get the same reaction to the seax I wear... Excellent video. Much better than the other one you had posted. I really liked the accurate description of the dagger. I have carried one for years when fighting polearm, at first (and still) to the disdain by some SCA fighters, and yet starting a ...

HRM Bryan is a great guy... I met him in the woods at Pennsic this year. oh what nonsense. ive trained many dozens of folks over the past 20 years. i have never sent them out until they were skilled, knew the rules, and had a clear concept of what our sport is. many are now knights, royal peers, and...

I gotta ask... for those who witnessed or were struck with these brutal blows... were they reported? Because that is exactly the kind of thing the experimental period is looking for... and that phase has been going on for some time... I want to say a couple of years at this point. I started experime...
