Face thrusts are the fastest, longest range attack that you can have with a one handed weapon. I love starting out with a nice friendly poke at my opponents eyes, gets them to flinch a bit so I can set up what I REALLLY wanted to do... and sometimes it gets ya a quick kill.

I do not have a problem with you. I simply asked for your name. SCA name would be enough. I, for example, am Cedric Helmbreaker, squire to Sir Richard Fitzalan. I am from the shire of Mts Edge in the Kingdom of An Tir. Anybody that had been reading this board for a year and a half would probably kno...

#1 Suppose you're in a melee and an archer shoots an arrow at you and by some stroke of luck you catch the arrow. What should you do with it? -- I have a friend that knocks arrows out of the air with his hand all the time. He's uncanning about swattin the things down. I have seen marshall's tell him...

Even for SCA combat, upward overlap works great. Thrusts are more likely to slide up your chest then if you have downward overlap and either way really protects you just fine from typical sword shots..

I always take anything that hits me in the bargrill. We're supposed to be fighting in open face helms - the bars are "assumed" to not be there. I personally think that the minimum armor requirements for the SCA should be what we are "assumed" to be wearing. If we're supposed to be wearing mail (or b...

An Tir has rules for engagement during melee battles. Did the archer have eye contact before attacking you? Was he actively "engaged" with you? If not then the shot was illegal.. I would have taken it, but I wouldnt have been happy about it. I think Dimitry has the right answer... http://www.armoura...

Makes you wonder why they dont just make those things against the rules. My only concern about the Baronial armor requirement thing is something I have seen marshalls do where they make their own decisions about what should or should not be allowed. Lots of things you can do... rivetting a camail onto the bottom will help. I have been told that a layer of Tool-Dip or car undercoating inside will also help.
