How do you guys work the buckle? I use a military chinstrap like you can buy from Ranger Joe's website. Are the cheek pieces to be padded also? Anything that can come into contact with the head has to be padded. Right, but if your chinstrap doesnt allow contact with the cheeks then they dont need t...

I saw a helmet at An Tir / West last year that had a Norman top and nasal with standard SCA back/side plates... Only difference was the bars/sides/back were all painted black (or blued somehow) and the top part was shiny steel. From 10+ feet away it looked like he just had a Norman helmet on.. I had...

Umm, no it doesn't. Umm, well it used to! (thats my story, and I'm sticking to it!) ABC's require 'some give' on mace heads. That is still pretty liberal, but those axe heads wouldn't qualify. The only version I have access too (off antir.sca.org) says 1/2". I dont fight with them much so no biggie...

You are correct.... dont know what I was thinking.

I dont really see why a 1/2" of give is needed, but I guess thems the Rules eh?

No padding is required for maces in Antir? (since the back of an axe can be used...) Hmm... the rules say the head of a single hand mass weapon must have 1/2" of "Progressive give"... and I'm not finding anything in there about the back of an axe being a mace (I know it WAS in there before)... Mayb...

sixtus. the back of an axe would probably hit like a mace. may as well put it to use:)

In An Tir at least, the back of an axe counts as a mace.

I guess Im the only one who didnt notice any benefit from wearing this stuff...

Just felt hot and itchy. I wore it a couple times, then decided wearing nothing (under the gambeson of course) was better.

Move it out of Yreka? Seriously, fourth of July weekend in Yreka can be a bit brutal to us soft northerners. I rigged up a redneck mail tumbler using a bucket and my wifes powered treadmill... tumbled it for about an hour in a bucket with sand.

Worked ok, got all the surface rust off (I wanted to take advantage of Forth Armouries tumbling services but couldnt stand to be without my Precious)

Halberds is the Man!

Got my face/grill from Halberds yesterday, not only does it look better in person then it did in the pics, but included in the box was a really cool armoring stake and three stainless balls (different sizes from maybe 1-3"). Still not sure what the balls are used for, but the stake was definitely so...

Remember -- you're playing the Game. Registering your armorial bearings is PART of that game. Effingham Normally I would agree with the the statement of play by the rules set. None. We had a knight that was coming for a while, but I think he dropped back out of the SCA again..

Oh yeah, there was another knight who came one time, brought both of his squires, and spent the entire time standing on the sidelines telling them what they should be doing to try to beat us.
