I rivitted leather strips to the inside of mine and hung a camail off of it. Totally killed about 90+% of the ringing (my helmet used to ring ALOT).

Buy a jigsaw, costs about $30 new, a hand drill maybe the same. Barrels are free or cheap.. and plastic armor is incredibly easy to make. For what you would spend on DV you could make 5 suits of it yourself easy, and thats counting buying the tools to do it.

Anything intentionally aimed at my groin. (legal with thrusting only in An Tir).

I dont care what kind of wierd shot you throw to hit me, please aim for something else. My wife gets kinda upset about people breaking her toys, and I really dont appreciate it much either.

I get approximately two months out of mine.. Thats figuring in about 2 events a month and 1 practice a week. I also tend to use them past the point where most people would replace them. I usually make a new one right before a big event, that way its still all hard and hits crisp The one I have now I...

Yup, I have experienced this. I have also had my body go on total autopilot and react to stuff long before my concious mind had time to think about it. Way back when I was a total Tae Kwon Do fanatic I kicked a stick out of my friends hand as he swung it at my head - twice in a row. Both times I was...

I think you should weld down the bar that runs down the side of the face opening. If you match the bar up closer to the edge, and then run a weld down the inside only I think it looks a lot better. The gaps between the bars look a little large for SCA fighting also, if they are legal now they look l...

Yes, I've heard some very complex drumming over the years. Alas, the ones who can do it seldom seem to get together without a larger complement of the other sort...who drag things down to the lowest common denominator. Usually it's one skilled guy, three with mediocre skill, and five drunken banger...

There is more to that "doumbek crap" then the one stupid rythm that everyone seems to hate (or love) so much... I have encountered a LOT of SCA drummers who only seem to know that one, but some of us actually do attempt to learn/play things other then Baladi. Just sayin' (Oh, and I agree, male belly...

Peter, I am glad that you found this thread, those were indeed the two helmets in question. I never saw the first helmet, so I cant comment on it (and from what I know of the buyer, I dont doubt your side of the story). The second helmet looked really good, other then the tightness of the opening. A...

My shield. Why? A couple of reasons... 1. For years I have used a small centergrip teardrop shield. I do fairly well with it, but I have been told numerous times that I would do better with a "real" shield. The one style that gives the biggest fits is people that fight with center-grip round shields...

After rethinking what I said above, I decided that I need to add a little more: I have seen a couple examples of Peter's work, and it is generally well made, with very solid welds and good finish work for the price. If it would fit, I would have no problem trusting my head to one of his helmets - th...
