So long as we have a system where people insist that "only the person in the armor is allowed to calibrate the blow" and there is no penalty for ignoring shots there will be people who refuse to call shots. As long as it is considered more dishonorable to call someone on blow-calling than ...

Res Ducis at Gulf War?

I realized that a lot of us ne'er do well dukes will be spending a lot of time at the pickup field at Gulf Wars. This would be a great opportunity for someone to bring out a video camera and have us do a quick Res Ducis video. I know Logan will be hanging out there as well as I and I'm sure there wi...

I was at an Aten War Practice one time and the spears were gakking a bit too hard. After the third time I got mad. I decided if that was the way they wanted to play then so be it. I started wading into the lines and batting spears aside and blasting people. After a bit I realized that maybe I was be...

About lack of battles. Well, I think sometimes fewer battles is a good idea. This way the fighters are committed to one thing all day. If you want more melees, then orgainze them. There is nothing in the rules that say you can only fight in designated melees. Grab a bunch of people and some space an...

I plan to spend my time at the pickup field or in tournament or generally relaxing. Please look for me for pickups. I love traing and learning new stuff. ...

Review of Gunther of Orkney Arm Harness

Gunther posted these in an earlier thread for $150. I believe they are heavy aluminum. m They are very pretty and very heavy duty, I have no problem taking a forearm shot in these. They weigh next to nothing but look like stainless steel. I'm very happy. Payment was half down and half on delivery al...

Looks like we won't be making it afterall. I'm just getting off some kind of cold/flu and now my lady is getting ill. Camping out in the cold and wet this weekend will not help her. We've been looking forward to BAM all year but I don't want to endanger my lady's health, no matter how wonderfully am...

Logan,

I ordered 7 spears, 4 light & 3 heavy, and the demand was so great I ordered another 7. Hopefully I'll have them by the time Bordermarche Autumn Melees rolls around next week. Folk seem pretty excited about them.

Cotton may still be a bit hot for us below the Mason-Dixon line. If you ever come out with a "hot weather" version in linen I'll definately grab one. It's gorgeous. Although I wonder if it would be all that much worse than wearing a long sleeve black undershirt and steel breastplate. At le...

I've fought for years with a 24" x 36" heater. Mainly because that is what I considered a shield to look like and my master used it. Even in the years when Ansteorra was full of barn doors I've used this. Recently I've changed to a 24" x 30" heater. That six inches make a bit of ...

I'm not sure what they mean by that. My vambraces are solid leather but pretty lightweight. I did get my forearm cracked while fighting single sword vs greatsword one time but that is about the only problem.

In Ansteorra, if you give us a target, we'll hit it. It is common for us to toss our shield if we take the arm but about 50/50 on whether we'll join you on the ground. We always offer the opportunity for our wounded opponent to yield with honor. Sometimes this saves them the embarassment of being po...

I finally received my Corrazina from House of the Wolf. It does look as if it was in a garage for a bit. The good: Much heavier weight than I expected, which is very cool. Nice thick leather that I'm not worried about tearing. It is in the color scheme I requested. The bad: It took a while, but I go...

I can attest to this. A year ago I fought really well in Crown but I had to lay off practice a lot because of travelling, events and such. Then I was injured so that took off more time. I've also started using a much smaller heater and I have to figure out how to fight with that. So, basically I loo...
