I was 47 when I won this last one. But I guess my claim to fame is that I've had the longest time between reigns. I won my second Crown 10 years and 7 months after my first.

CLANG review

I ordered a 48 oz leather bottle with carrying strap from CLANG a bit ago. I'd asked for it to be delivered before Gulf Wars if possible and he shipped it so it would reach me before the promised date. Although I didn't get it by Gulf Was was no fault of his but instead me having problems with PayPa...

Of note.. Sir Madach stood the field on Thor's Day and fought 57 knights, from almost every kingdom there, one for each of his years on this planet.

I think I'll have to do that in two years for my 50th Birthday.

To the fighters at Gulf Wars

To those Allied with Ansteorra: Thank you. You fought damned hard, partied harder and always had chivalry at the forefront. To those Allied against Ansteorra: Thank you. I'm trying to figure how to pay with him. He said he can go "Visa to Visa" but I'm not sure if he means he has Paypal.

What did you do to send payment. I'd like to get a couple of belts from him but I'm unsure of the payment options.

Out of curiosity, who here wants to get so good their name gets mentioned on these lists? Who thinks it's an achievable goal before they start to get too old or out of shape? That's me. What really hurts is that I will have to miss it. I would love to be King at this one but I owe the rest of the kingdom the Royal Presence as well. So my Queen and Heirs will get to go and I'll be attending the Barony of Bonwicke.

I love Bonwicke and all our people. But, damn.

Drake is definitely semi-retired right now... Mahidi has also not been extremely active as far as *I've* seen, but sometimes with a kingdom the size of Ansteorra, two people can be active simlutaneously and yet still not see each other at events for months. I don't think you'll see either of them a...

I think I must disagree with the comment of "if it is the correct shape and methods it doesn't matter". If the piece were made of aircraft aluminum, plastic, tin cans or whatever I would deduct points. They may work just fine on the tourney field but I would not wish them to be featured in...

So from what I gather is if I'm judging a piece of armor and it is in spring steel I should not count off points because of it being a non-period material? But if the armor is in stainless spring steel then there could be a little deduction? There also wouldn't be a huge deduction of points even if ...

Stainless Spring Steel Period?

This past weekend I was called upon to judge an entry in a baronial A&S. The entry was for a lovely pair of sabatons made from stainless spring steel. The articulation and general design of the armor was gorgeous. But one thing I did ding the entry on was the use of non-period materials. Now whe...

A gorgeous site and some not commonly found aspects of SCA combat such as equestrian melee and jousting as well as barrier fights and other fun stuff. It's short but a nice vid and hopefully encouragement for you guys to come visit.

Where to get red/white belts?

I've discovered that it is rather difficult to get either red or white belts from many merchants. Strangely, enough, many of the merchants who sell belt accessories only offer the usual brown, black or undyed belts.

Any suggestions? I'm wanting to make a nice 14th C. belt for my squire.

Results of Ansteorran Crown

Sir Hrafn Olafsson, fighting for Ly Elizabeta di Valore della Rosa, defeated Duke Miguel Sebastian de Oporto in three bouts to become our Heirs. It was a very chilly day, rather the opposite of the 105 degree weather of the last Crown, and all fighters fought with honor, skill and grace. The semi-Fi...
