One could speculate on these. From Talhoffer's 1459 edition;

http://img.kb.dk/ha/manus/th290/kamp0188.jpg
http://img.kb.dk/ha/manus/th290/kamp0197.jpg
http://img.kb.dk/ha/manus/th290/kamp0203.jpg
and from the 1467 edition;
http://www.aemma.org/onlineResources/th ... afel_5.htm (I think this is "herringbone" as it was called)
http://www.aemma.org/onlineResources/th ... fel_48.htm
http://www.aemma.org/onlineResources/th ... fel_54.htm
http://www.aemma.org/onlineResources/th ... el_181.htm
these last two are perhaps more likely candidates than the rest.

Assistance in getting a larger image?
I'm looking at this, from the Life of Alexander;
http://www.getty.edu/art/collections/ob ... z5748.html
and can't seem to get it larger (the lack of advanced art manipulation proggie on my comp itches like a rash).
Can someone help me obtain a larger, clear version of at least the illustration?

da Vinci's plastic
Chalk up another one for Renaissance genius Leonardo Da Vinci -- he just may have invented plastic...Leonardo was working with intestines, cauliflower leaves, paper and plant dyes. proper fighting uses good body mechanics. Dancers have a few advantages to taking up fighting. One, especially with sword work, the power comes from the hips; dancers, especially the middle eastern belly type, have well developed hips, lower back and leg muscles. Second, dancers tend to have an extr...

I think that the vest could be improved, as others have noted, by a plate covering the sides of the torso. There is a historical armour design called Chahar-Ai-Ne which might prove good inspiration for the design, especially this example, with four hinged plates surrounding the torso; m it is from t...

That book will give you a lot of poor advice and has a lot of misunderstanding of the historical material.
