several of Talhoffer's books also show messer use, and the movements themselves make sense, but they're a mite hard to put together into a more comprehensive approach to use. Thank you for helping to make these messer wasters! I like the side guard, which allows for things like the ward with the tur...

Fiore's longsword has the crossguard roughly at or just below your belly button and the pommel at the bottom of the sternum. Marozzo's greatsword has the pommel fit under the armpit. Vadi's greatsword has the pommel level with the top of your shoulder. The length does greatly affect the mechanics of...

begging your pardon, Finnvarr, but this question is in the recent Chiv Bookshelf book. I understand your statements to indicate otherwise. nice work! Keep it up! If you figure out how to make riveted maille that size, you could make a small fortune off of your craftwork in a short time. One coif or a mantle would go for a lot, to say nothing of a shirt or gussets. Welcome to the few, the proud, the makers of micromaille!

Period use of bamboo?

In Wolfram von Eschenbach's Parzival, the hero uses a bamboo lance at several points. Certainly this is not definitive proof of it's widespread or even rare usage in his time period on (~1250). What do folks think of this as a material, perhaps transported overland to eastern europe? This was oddly ...

Asbjorn, you are doing fantastic work and I greatly admire all that you have accomplished and inspired in others. Myself, I think that I would not charge a spearman with a round shield as long as he has the spear point down at my shin level or directly at me. Focussing on striking him, (presumably with a shorter weapon than his spear) he might poke me in the leg before I realize it, and the more momentum I have...

registering your maker's mark

Chronique.com has a database you can enter your armoruer's mark in here

perhaps the Armour Archive would be interested in making a page dedicated to displaying maker's marks freely, and perhaps examples of the better historical ones?
