For Sale - early period stainless Praetorian helm

Unfortunately, I have to let this helm go. Financially, I'm having issues right now and seeing that I have have two other helms, this one has to be sacrificed. It was made by Sir Brand of West Coast Armoury. It's satin stainless and made for my 23-1/2 melon, but has room size-wise either way. It's l...

Lucian, have you not seen the huge website of effigies? Indeed I have, Eff, but I have a hard time discerning if something like this below a surcoat or maybe more of a jupon. I ask because I honestly don't know. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v168/Leonthas/Westerley20Waterless20Church20Sir20.jpg

Now surcoats, were they still in fashion at the 1350 timeframe or had they become an anachronism? If indeed they were still in fasion what style were they?

For sale: Aluminum oval shield blank and shield boss

I have a new, undrilled aluminum shield blank from By My Hand Designs. It measure 36" x 23" with a 6" center hole. Not sure of the thickness. It has a 2-3 degree curvature, from what I recall. I'm looking for $45 + shipping. An new, undrilled aluminum center grip shield boss from Boka...

Lucian, thanks for the great deal. By the way, did you ever use the elbow strap? Oddly enoguh, Tally I put it on there and never really used it. I had it 'riveted', as it were, with Chicago screws but it never really added to (or took away from) the fit of the bazubands, so I eventually went withou...

The best results would likley come from removing the grill and starting it from scratch. Sorry, that's what I was implying Adam, lol, I wrote this right after I woke up. I was hoping to remove the original grill and have two other grills made for it; a removable klap visor and removable bar grill.

Adding a klap visor to a bascinet?

I had a house member recently just pull out of the SCA altogether, which is damn unfortunate, but it put me into the possession of a stainless bascinet with a welded on grill that fits me perfectly. My question is how hard would it be to have someone make a removable grill and a klap visor for it? A...

Fitting an aventail to a helm

How do you do it?
I'm in the process of purchasing a kettle helm but I am unsure of how to correctly size and fit an aventail to to the helm.
What measurements would you need to take, per se?
Anyone have any hints?
Any how-to's?

SCA - Brigandine Questions

I'm in the beginning phases of constructing a 14th century brigandine and I've come across a few issues. - Is there normally a backing put on it or is it simply the top leather/canvas/suede/what-have-you and then the plates rivetted to them or are the plates "sandwiched" between two layers...

I'm having a hard time discerning whether or not the plates overlap on the Archives plans, for the 14th centruy brigandine it doesn't seem to but the 15th century plans seems to definitely do so.
Also, why are the riveted to the cloth on the bottom row instead of from the top?

Klap visors and melees

After perusing many a Gulf Wars and Pennsic pic I noticed very few if any folks wearing klap visors for the battles. I would think that there would be vision restrictions but no more than a great helm, which I saw many of in the pictures.

Do you wear one for melees? Why so/why not?

Brass riveting question

If I were going to use dometop brass rivets to add decorative brasswork to knees, elbow, helms, etc, what size would I be looking for?
I was thinking 1/8" x 1/2". Or would 1/8" x 1" be better for peening down?

Here's the page I was viewing:
