WTB - "Salt-shaker" helm

Title says it all, although it might want to be added that it will be for SCA combat. 23-1/2 inch head. Anyone interested in selling or making?

I just realized I derailed my own thread, apologies.

Guillaume, in an attempt to put this thread back on track I PM'd you with further questions toward your kit, as I am still very curious who here on the archive wears a turban and how effective they really are.

Turban, headwrap or ... ?

What is the proper name to the headpiece worn by muslims on their heads, as seen during the crusading eras (and I'm sure before and after that time period, obviously)? Are there any websites on how to make one and wrap it correctly? Who here on the archive wears one? Do they work well against the he...

Windlass Steelcrafts -- what's the scoop?

I seem to remember hearing a lot of negative statements on Windlass Steelcrafts swords. I also remember as a youngster seeing all these crazy pictures of Hank Reinhardt (I believe?) bending the blades over his head, stating that his are excellent reproductions, yadda yadda yadda. So, what's the trut...

Byzantine symbol - need explanation.

I saw a design in the Osprey The Normans book which shows a Norman Ex-Byzantine mercenary with what looks like a scrolled backwards "S" enscribed on his gaiters. Now, I don't know what this symbol means but it stated in the caption that similar decorative gaiters are a typical piece of cavalry equip...

No, definitely the 'sting'. Unfortunately, like a fair amount of our SCA brethren out there, God didn't see fit to gift me with a lot of extra padding, as I'm only 5'-11", 160. I'm thinking of this option for more along the lines of war time. I can make it through the list fighting fine but it's the...

(SCA) What do you wear under your lamellar?

I recently switched out from an old lamellar plate design I had to White Mountain Armouries smaller lamellar plates. They're much more flexible and lighter and seem to distribute the force of blows better although I've taken a few blows as of late that make me think I might want to add a little extr...

Matty, there was also the term allagion proper, originated in the 10th century, or allagia, which can be 10, 50 and/or 100 men.

Hey Robert,

We might want to rename the thread 1050 - 1250. I didn't realize that the serious power behind the Byzantine throne was beginning to peter out at the beginning of the 13th century, with their major employ of out-country mercenary sources.

Aluminum CoP Kit?

Anyone making an aluminum coat of plates kit? All I need are the plates, I can do the leatherwork myself.
I know GAA and such make kits but they're in mild steel and I'd really like low-maintenance aluminum.

Thanks in advance!
