Powdercoating a helm (I know, I know ... )

Yes, yes, this has been asked before but I never really gleaned a significant yay or neigh on it. I was thinking of doing it to an old great helm I have.
Have you done it and does it last?
Is there a way to doing one side one color while coating the other a different color?

Not sure if the 'duct tape dummy' could support the weight.

Creepy is as creepy does, WP.

Checked Ebay, Adam, but they're pretty pricey.

Still looking, may check a thrift store today.

WTB - Mannequin

I need a male or asexual full mannequin. It's going to be used for my armour, basically. The fiance is tired of looking at my armour stand and as I live in a loft, I have very little space to store anything. She was keen to the idea of a mannequin fully armoured, as it is a nice converation piece. P...

Wulfe, I think it has nothing to do with the craftsmanship, which is very nice, I think it's the fact that a stainless helm of the same design can be gotten for about half the original price. Spring steel reminds me of rivetted mail a few years ago; much interest but not many buyers until the price ...

So, is lamellar viable for a crusader of the 4th Crusade? There looks to be a crusader clad in lamellar (although it might be a type of scale) in one of the last pictures entitled, Tournament on Isthmus of Corinth, AD 1302 in the the Osprey Warrior Series Knight of Outremer book. I realize that the ...

Thanks folks for all the input. I should have narrowed my intent instead of just throwing a broad question out there. What I was, in a roundabout manner, attempting to ask was, "Can lamellar be used by a crusader persona, and if so, what areas used it?", lol. I'm basically looking to have an early p...

... how late can it feasibly be worn as armor, realistically? I realize I can go probably wear it pretty late into the 13th century if I were to portray a Byzantine (a very feasible possibility) but are there any other possible portrayals of personas that wear such armour in later period? Need great helm or similar (SCA)

Looking for a great helm or some type of close-faced crusader-era helm for SCA combat. Doesn't need to be gorgeous but has to be functional. For 23 1/2 noggin'.
I know about Truehearth and such but am looking for something without a wait.

Looks great, Dan. A way I found of making the lighter colors more even is to cut my dye (I use Fiebing's or Tandy Pro Dye) with the Pro Dye Solvent about 6 parts solvent to 1 part dye. Then I apply 4 to 6 coats. To me, it provides a deeper, richer color. I then seal it with Tan-Kote (not sheen) whic...

Um, yeah. Never thought those words would ever come out of my mouth. But let me explain -- it's what I wear to cover my non-period leg armour and I hate big, baggy pants. I wear lamellar, so I don't want a tunic; and the skirt simply looks like a tunic with the lamellar harness over it. So, who can ...

Uilleag, or others -- leather-work question.

Hypothetically speaking, mind you, let's say that I have a pair of bazubands that I assembled out of 12-14oz veg tan. Lets just say that I spent about 8 hours assembling and then dyeing and tooling them. Lets then go with the idea that I've decided on my heraldric device whose colors in no way match...
