Lucien, Take the plans from a set of wingless elbow cops and shrink them so that when dished they will cover (when over 1/2" closed cell foam) all the necessary elbow bits but don't stick out past the arm. I mounted my set of similar cops on a pair of street hockey elbows- built in padding and no s...

Super Low-profile Elbows ideas?

Okay, can anyone give me a pattern or help me devise a way to have some seriously 'hidden' elbow armour for SCA heavy combat. I'll have a hauberk that falls to elbow length and vambraces that come an inch or so below but I REALLY don't want the elbow cops to show. Yes, it's completely aesthetic reas...

Fighting in aluminum mail?

Okay, I know it's been brought up before, but I specifically want to know if anyone fights in aluminum mail. I have a chance to grab my friends and try it out under my coat-of-plates, so before I do I'm curious to hear if anyone else fights in it and if so how it holds up. What gauge? I'm assuming 1...

For those of you that carry these items as a back up weapon for SCA heavy melee combat, what length do you generally use?

Any tips for making this tiny thing hit just a little harder?

Stainless/aluminum splints needed ASAP

Okay, I tried to cut some stainless kick plate with my jigsaw in an attempt to make splints for my vambraces and that was a complete no go. Jigsaw and blade are shot. Could someone produce (6) 7"x 1/2", and (4) 5"x 1/2" lengths in either aluminum or stainless for me? I have cash burning a hole in my...

Dremel Tool Woes

Well, I've been working on a plaque belt like the Templar Bob explained to me. Cut the brass with some WISS shears, filed the edges by hand, raised the inner design with different punches -- THEN I decided I'd buy a Dremel tool (hey, a neighbor was moving, I got it for $10, woo-hoo) to engrave lines...

Splinted vambraces

Is there any reason not to put the splints on the inside of the leather, thereby not marring the leatherwork I wish to do on top of the vambrace?

Anyone have any stainless or aluminum 1/2" stock they want to sell that I can do so with?

Thanks!

Aluminum or stainless. In my opinion, galvanized looks like ass. Tom Lol, tell us how you really feel, Tom. I don't think he has a preference, really, he just said 'he didn't want it to rust'. I always thought stainless looked too shiny, but, on the other end of the spectrum, doesn't galvanized hav...

(X-post) Elbow-length Chainmail Shirt

Have a neighbor looking for an elbow-length chainmail shirt that, "won't rust", so I'm assuming he'd prefer aluminum or galvanized steel? He mentioned using it for SCA combat, but, in my ever so humble opinion, he'll probably not use it too often.

Anyone? Just throwing it out there ...

I purchased a gorgeous quillon and pommel set from Roderick at Mandrake Armoury, and was curious how you folks have attached yours? I'd hate to drill into the quillon base but I'm trying to figure out how to get a nice, solid 'seal', if you will.

If you're using it only because you can't find/afford steel (prices are pretty high...), then I'll be more than happy to send you some pre-cut 18ga steel strips for your CoP. Ailettes - anyone use them in SCA combat?
