Re: La Belle Compagnie in the early 15th century...

Like I needed ANOTHER reason to start researching at 15th century kit to accommodate my love of my late 14th century kit.
Okay, fine.

Re: When was the tunic/hood combo the height of fashion?

Correct on all counts. A common oversight in re-creation circles is the plainness of hoods in higher class portrayals. Too few are embroidered or otherwise decorated (bezants are fun too). Another oversight is a lack of proper layering. A shirt, followed by a longsleeved kirtle/cotte, followed by a...

Re: SCA and Battle of Nations

I haven't participated in any BOTN-sanctioned events yet but I'm shooting for the April event with the US team. In the initial stages of talking to Josh Warren about getting a practice together here in the Midwest. I hope there are some SCA folk on the Archive that have participated, as I'd love to ...

Re: What is your inspiration for your device?

They were saying, "It was crazy, they even had some skinny guy with just a dagger going after people; buzzing around like some kind of dragonfly or something!" I picked up a pair of mother-of-pearl/silver dragonfly-shaped earrings recently and thought of you, Lucian. Awww, Maitress, that ...

Re: What is your inspiration for your device?

My heraldry comes from my second Gulf Wars, I believe. Our three man unit was plugging a hole in the left side breach area of the fort, Black Widow Breach, maybe? I was shooting spear and the two others were sword and shield. A particularly nasty (and accurate) ballista bolt took out my left protect...

Re: Marking your pell?

Excellent, thanks all. I like using one inch wide electrical tape to mark slots on the pell. Angled stripe coming down toward the nose at about a 45 degree angle on both sides; straight across at about temple height, one inch above the knee. And then the task is that the only blows that count are th...

Marking your pell?

I spent the weekend making a pretty damn spiffy pell (if I do say so my damn self) and I've heard people mark their pells for targeting purposes.
Sounds good to me.
Where do you mark yours? With what?
Have any pics?
Help a newbie pell owner out here.

Re: It starts at 29 seconds in

I wonder if the reason you don't see the hard charges you get in the SCA is given the weapons being used, people are worried an accidental thrust? I know I've had a sword jammed in an armpit or running up the inside of my leg because of weird collisions. I give you ... hard charges. http://www.yout...

Cased greaves fit

I finally got a chance this weekend to kick around in my cased greaves from Hammer breaker. While the fit is near-perfect, the uppermost front of the greaves rests uncomfortably (after some time) against my shin. Is this a fit issue or is it simply that there should be padding there? All I was weari...

Lol, I now know that if I make the leather too snug to the bargrill it looks like I have a brown leather turtleneck sweater that covers the sides of the helm. I was thinking that maybe it needs to be made out of two pieces and sewed together in the center of the back of the helm. I made one or two m...
