Aaron, Check out the Greatsword Appreciation Thread we had a while back: http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=95872 When you move to Atlantia you will find it is a very good place for greatsword fighting because you can knock the crap out of people, hammer them in the ribs, sma...

Re: Right Leg Forward fighting style
Here's an answer from an east coast sword-foot-forward fighter! For reference, I fight with a 36-38" sword and a knee-to-chest strapped heater and bring a very mobile, active fight. 1) It messes with opponents who aren't used to it, which is a lot 2) It doesn't introduce much risk, as most people's...

Ok, here are some pictures! If you are thinking about getting a federschwert for unarmored or lightly-armored steel fighting, I highly recommend this one.

Review: Arms & Armor Fechterspiel, and Kult of Athena
I contacted Craig at Arms & Armor about purchasing one of his high-end federschwert. Craig told me that he had a bit of a backlog in the queue, and it would take a few months before he'd be able to forge me one. However, he told me that it was possible one of his distributors, Kult of Athena, might ...

Re: If noone gets hurt, we arent doing it right
I'm with Caspar. If a shot lands with force and makes me feel bested I take it. I rarely get bruises from SCA combat, so if I only called shots that were going to leave their mark I would be raising my acknowledgement level well beyond the norm. Another exception is the 'Oww crap, that was light' sh...

Dante, Don't worry man, that is just your head. When you get in your armor and actually start fighting, you will pick it up again after like 15-20 minutes. You were fighting very well at that practice at Sinclair's after you warmed up a bit. Just don't let yourself fall into the, 'I'm not going to s...

Re: SCA Heavy Combat's Inherent Problem
I don't think this is necessarily a problem. People can choose how much armor they want to wear, to suit their style and comfort level. I think it is the responsibility of the combatant to armor himself to the level that he can receive blows thrown at the upper end of the calibration scale and not w...

Re: SCA Spear 2 inch thrusting tips
Aaron--sort of. My experience was that whether the 2" tip hits 'light' or 'youch!' varies based on what the victim is wearing for armor. Generally, someone wearing thick armor will want a stouter shot from the 2" tips than they would from the 3", because it has less mass. But someone ...

Re: SCA Spear 2 inch thrusting tips
given that the introduction of these 2" heads solved no problem, and added nothing to our sport, there is little reason to have them. 3" heads are so easy to use and there have been no issues with them for many years. While I agree with you about 3" heads being easy and possibly a li...

Hmm. If sparring with these synthetic wasters can be done at SCA events for demonstration and study of historical fighting techniques, then cool. If not, that's cool too, we'll just do that outside of SCA events. These synthetics are a lot of fun, more forgiving even than federschwert in terms of da...
