Never had any doubt
I put in my order yesterday. I understand this is the pre-order; is there an estimated release date?

Re: Gut shovel for a tuchuk
Nissan, You really make awesome weapons bro. I use that kickass greatsword you gave me for ceremony and the occasional important tourney match. As rough on rattan as I am, it is just too awesome for 'regular' use. Keep up the great work in devising instruments that cause squeals of pain for the 'end...

Re: Training, Practice and Evaluation
Livia, Cardio and conditioning appear to be majorly-overlooked areas of training in SCA heavy combat, and I am glad you are planning to take it seriously. First off, I recommend getting yourself a pedometer ($3 on ebay) and making a point to do 10,000 steps a day, whether it be walking, running, etc...

Re: Rude Salutes
Hahah, this thread has the scent of the Drama Llama about it. I don't think my opponent's salute, or lack thereof, could provoke much of any reaction from me. Unless it involved a penis. In which case, it would just be funny. SCA fighting is the most courteous combat sport I have ever played by FAR,...

Re: Etiquette on the war field
Melees DO get a wee bit chaotic, especially depending on your style. At Panhandle Skirmishes 2009--a war between Meridies, where I lived at the time, and Trimaris, who was hosting us--my friend told me a story about how he was dead, talking to another Meridian knight on the sidelines, who asked him,...

Re: [SCA] Is deliberate spear breaking legal?
*Deliberate* breaking of an opponent's weapon is unchivalrous and tantamount to douchebaggery. But unintentional breaking of a spear happens all the time, and isn't that big a deal to me. Last time someone broke my spear, he apologized and offered to pay for a replacement, but I just accepted his ap...

Re: opening shots
Dietrich, unless your sword is 20"+ longer, the fact that you can hit the opponents body means that your sword arm is in range. Hitting that wins almost as much as a head shot. When you throw to the offside leg, unless you have a *STRANGE* shield, the mechanics mean that your arm will be in a ...

Re: opening shots
Dietrich, be careful about using your reverse cross cut opening cold. There is a simple counter the obviates both a real flat snap, and the fake + offside leg. A diagonal cut aimed along the line of your sword shoulder to shield hip combined with proper shield position will foul the combo at best, ...

Re: opening shots
Audax, Here are a couple of my favorite openers: Offside-to-cross-cut: This is a fairly 'safe' opening move since it starts with a punching offside head shot into the opponent's sword, just to get you in range and prevent a riposte. The hand immediately flips over into a nice hard flat snap, designe...

Congrats, Guillaume. It sounds like you have successfully executed a version of the 'Rising Snap', or 'Batter Up!' shot, that will serve you well if you keep working on it. I use a modified version, that you might like too. This is designed to screw with people's heads. It starts off from a high gua...

For a few more bahts you can just bribe a priest to say a sutra or two and lift the curse, then you'll be off to the races!
Or, perhaps the curse will make this sword even more badass!

Re: Greatsword Construction
I use a lightweight 66 inch greatsword (I am 6'3) with a thrusting tip, no pommel spike, and a nice amount of counterweight. My style revolves around fast, sweeping feints that redirect quickly into combos. A good compromise between lightweight and balanced is to use a pipe cap or other decently hea...

Re: bucklers
Windrose has excellent bucklers. I recommend getting one sturdy enough that you can use for heavy, too--my buckler is 14 gauge. It is fun as hell to fight with in SCA heavy list...and it weighs enough that people can't just blow through it when you punch-block. Don't think I have any pics on hand, b...

Re: How fast do your weapons wear out?!?
I blow through rattan like kleenex. 2 decent-sized tourneys sounds about right, for a single-handed sword. I made a new one a couple days before Mannanan, in Atlantia, fought 14 rounds with it. I made the mistake of thinking, 'Ehh, I bet it's got one more tourney left in it' before Ymir, one of our ...
