Re: 7 1/2 foot Polearm vs 6 foot Great Sword
Ahh, cool topic. Ok, most of the salient points here have already been covered, but I will add that greatsword is actually my preferred form to take on a polearm fighter who knows what he is doing. For example at Ymir, depending on who won some fights I might have had to face Count Vlad next. I didn...

Re: Legal fist weapons?
i always found it odd that folks would wear spurs while fighting. regards logan Yeah, really! At Gulf Wars in the field battle, we were rushing around/over a pile of bodies, and the knight next to me accidentally stepped on a dead dude, eliciting a loud yelp of pain. I don't know if he jacked him w...

Let me just add, that anyone who makes it to the finals of a Crown tourney fighting with a BUCKLER is a badass, in my book.

Just saw this, and um..... wow... thanks. I am both humbled and honored by your words. Having such a positive impact on your GW is now on of my best Fun Experiences of my GW. It was good meeting you; will you be heading to Pennsic Or Blackstone? Hi Oscad! No problem, I have to give credit where cre...

Re: How do you carry your back up weapon?
I have experimented with numerous methods of carrying a sidearm, including leather sheaths, shoulder holster, etc. When someone is charging down the warpath at you, you have a split second to get that dagger out and shank him with it, and if it gets stuck, you are hosed. Ultimately, what works the b...

Re: Minimum Armor Standards
Since we are talking about personal preference, here's what I wear fighting in Atlantia: Arms: Hockey elbow on my swordarm, minimalistic shield elbow. Body: Ye Olde Marshal Appeaser, a leather weightlifting belt that covers my kidneys. If Blackbow's Zoombang shirts are ruled to be sufficient kidney ...

Re: Gulf Wars: Share your fun experiences!
Thanks Dietrich. My big regret is that I was too much of a pussy to fight our duel. For what it's worth, mate, I didn't think any less of you. The heat was brutal, the battles we had just fought in were intense, and you were wearing nearly a hundred pounds of gear. Knowing your limits is a sign of ...

Gulf Wars: Share your fun experiences!
OK, haven't been on the AA since I got back from Gulf Wars (catching-up from being gone from the office after a week is more of a battle than any I've ever fought in armor!) This thread is about sharing some cool experiences or memories of things you enjoyed! Here are some of my best memories: 1) Th...

Re: FOUND: Fighting with the German Longsword
[quote="Scott H."]I was contacted via PM by Dietrich von Stroheim who happened to have a used copy of Fighting with the German Longsword for sale. During the process of finding a fair price, we agreed upon a solution offered by Greg Mele in the [url=http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/v...

Adriano, you are on the right path. Having a backup weapon can lead to a lot of really fun memories. Much of the time, mine doesn't get used. But it has saved my ass many a time, and it is an AWESOME experience when the dude with the shield runs you down, sets up for a deep wrap, and... ...stares do...

I would LOVE IT if the Marshal's in charge would have an experimental weapon list open so folks could experiment. I will have polypro swords, Icefalcon spears V1.0/(2.0 if he gets me some at GW), new axeheads, mandrake spears, potato sorter mace, etc... at the Marshals tent for use if the MIC allow...

Folcric, you are very welcome. Your uncle makes one hell of a product and I like to give praise where praise is due so others can benefit--it can be a VERY costly experience for new folks to learn who is good to do business with!! Hey guys, I just now checked in and saw the questions. The legs Sir Haroun made for me actually look a lot better than the ones in the thread referenced--they are all black. Oi, what a mess. I'm surprised that such a big deal was made of someone getting hit in the cup. I don't know anyone who intentionally tries to wack someone's junk all the way back up into his stomach, but cup shots happen all the time. I know last time I got cupped it was by my leftie friend in some...

AA Review: Sir Haroun, hidden legs
Two weeks ago I received my leg armor from Sir Haroun--I've gone most of my SCA career with no leg armor (just hidden knees) and been just fine, and I never could find anything that I liked...everything was too heavy or bulky or just cramped my style. Well, Sir Haroun made me some hidden leg to my m...

I bought and read this my first year.
