Interesting observation, and a sound theory I think. Football/wrestling/rugby player here, Boxing being my main combat sport. I try to stick to the rules as they are written but I do like rough play and stuff that beards the rules a bit without breaking them. Also at backyard fighter practices we've...

You can let them grandstand, like give a big heroic speech, and then counter that speech with a courteous and well- spoken refusal. "My gracious Lord, we must refuse you since you are obviously a man to be respected- even feared. Prepare to meet God." That would make my day. I would have ...

Bold and underline mine. You had honorable opponents. I have seen the same situation with the last fighter ending ganged up by all of the opponents left on the other side and I did not like it. <snip> Malcolm I can really identify with you in this story. I've been the last guy alive in a melee and had the enemy army line up to come and face me one by one, my comrades on the sidelines cheering with each man I defeated, until the enemy brought me down. If you are having issues with someone questioning it, and you guys can't work it out between your selves, get word to me an I will see if we can get them up to speed on how we view things in Atlantia. Cool, thanks Bryan. ...

Yeah, Logan has it right. Since he was the one who taught me the move, I do it the same way. It's not a feint, and it's not a thrust. It's definitely not, in my opinion, a blatant safety hazard. Given the way this is done I can't imagine harm resulting from it, I just don't want to be in violation o...

Technique Legality Question

The weekend before last I was fighting in a tourney, standing over the man I'd legged. I was about to utilize a technique that involves jamming the tip of my sword downwards into the corner of the foe's shield to displace it, and rolling my wrist over to finish him with a flat snap. Then it dawned o...

Lucas, that sounds like a win to me. You did your best to give the man the shot he required, and ultimately won the match. I don't have any really juicy sins to share, but here is my story: the single time I have lost my cool in SCA combat. At a Panhandle Skirmishes, I brought with me a new fighter ...

It very much depends upon your fighting style. In my ideal fight, my opponent never gets to swing at me because I fake him out of his sabatons at range and strike a telling blow first. Failing that, I stay at range and throw a barrage of broad sweeping shots from alternating angles, mixed up with fe...

Gavin is exactly right. There is a big difference between proper follow-through on a cut, and overcommitment or 'Buffaloism'

I've always thought of a Buffalo as someone who just rears the sword back like a baseball bat, and lets fly as hard as he can in the general direction of the bad guy.
