Interesting observation, and a sound theory I think. Football/wrestling/rugby player here, Boxing being my main combat sport. I try to stick to the rules as they are written but I do like rough play and stuff that beards the rules a bit without breaking them. Also at backyard fighter practices we've...

Bold and underline mine. You had honorable opponents. I have seen the same situation with the last fighter ending ganged up by all of the opponents left on the other side and I did not like it. Glaukos You are correct, Glaukos. My opponents chose to give me honorable combat, and that was very cool....

<snip> Malcolm I can really identify with you in this story. I've been the last guy alive in a melee and had the enemy army line up to come and face me one by one, my comrades on the sidelines cheering with each man I defeated, until the enemy brought me down. I imagine if somebody had used me as a...

D no one in our kingdom would have an issue with the technique you described. If you are having issues with someone questioning it, and you guys can't work it out between your selves, get word to me an I will see if we can get them up to speed on how we view things in Atlantia. Cool, thanks Bryan. ...

its too often used as a crutch and too often leads to sloppy fighting. crown should be a showcase of skill and while a tiny percentage of guys throw skillful thrusts the majority do not. now those are my own opinions but i would not be surprised if hrh feels any different. he has disallowed them in...

Yeah, Logan has it right. Since he was the one who taught me the move, I do it the same way. It's not a feint, and it's not a thrust. It's definitely not, in my opinion, a blatant safety hazard. Given the way this is done I can't imagine harm resulting from it, I just don't want to be in violation o...

Technique Legality Question
The weekend before last I was fighting in a tourney, standing over the man I'd legged. I was about to utilize a technique that involves jamming the tip of my sword downwards into the corner of the foe's shield to displace it, and rolling my wrist over to finish him with a flat snap. Then it dawned o...

Lucas, that sounds like a win to me. You did your best to give the man the shot he required, and ultimately won the match. I don't have any really juicy sins to share, but here is my story: the single time I have lost my cool in SCA combat. At a Panhandle Skirmishes, I brought with me a new fighter ...

if you hold this position for a few minutes and feel fatigue you will know which muscles are under-developed. usually this is due to poor posture caused by over-developed pecs. just for starters. regards logan Wow, I started to feel serious fatigue after just a minute. It very much depends upon your fighting style. In my ideal fight, my opponent never gets to swing at me because I fake him out of his sabatons at range and strike a telling blow first. Failing that, I stay at range and throw a barrage of broad sweeping shots from alternating angles, mixed up with fe...

a few of them are great examples of why we must call all flat shots light. looking at how bent the flat shots are should shut anyone up that thinks we should ignore flat shots. Armour really works against real weapons. And so my point is made. Gun, please provide support for the statement, rather than just repeating an unsupported assertion. I'm more inclined to think that real armor SOMETIMES worked against real weapons. Which is still an unsupported assertion, but a fai...

On the subject of punching with the head of an axe...go ahead and take your bearded axe out to the tree, grip it just below the head, and give a good solid jab at face height. What you will see is that the bottom of the haft kicks out forward, while the axe head rocks back. This robs it of a lot of ...

Although this wasn't really where I was going with this thread, it is still a good and valuable discussion. On the subject of stout face thrusts. Re: Fighting Resolutions
Yeah, the flurry of doom works great against most fighters but against guys like you who can weather it, I'm just burning up my own energy. I think adding patience to my fighting style will help me take it to the next level...my speed probably isn't going to increase that much, but timing and defens...

Sir Vitus, I agree that most people cannot thrust with much skill, and I also agree it would be a quick end. However, I can personally attest that Dietrich does in fact have quite a bit of expertise in this area. I think there is a certain stigma attached to thrusting, namely that many people feel ...

Fighting Resolutions
I've been doing a lot of thinking (the first sign of trouble, I know!) lately about my fighting. Although these are like New Years resolutions, I see no reason to wait to January to implement them. I started yesterday, and want to present them here so that I, and others of this fighting community, c...
