Ok, I went and downloaded the antir book of combat when I read Gorms reply just to make sure I wasn't off base... It helps if you get the current edition. No more light archers, which is good. No more wooden shafts, which is good, still have fiberglass shafts, which is bad in my opinion. It's not cl...

(caveat, your Kingdom may have non-standard rules, I'm referring here to SCA standard) Actually, since the last rules revision roughly 2 years ago, if they are holding their bow, they are armed, and therefore are subject to being engaged and hit, with no penalty or shame upon the engaging fighter. ...

the ice falcon plastic gaunts work really well with the street hockey gloves (the red ones) he sells. I have big paws and they fit me just fine. find a friend with a leather needle and artificial sinew and you can stitch 'em up in an hour or so. If you need it, We'll have said needle and sinew at wa...

It was better when you were showing your failure along with ours but yeah sparkley vampires are terrible. well, someone had to stop. It seemed to me in retrospect that it was entirely possible that I was missinterpreting something. It seemed better to take back my words before anyone else was insul...

You know Leo, there was a COtT a few years ago when you put my left arm in a pretty serious arm bar across your chest and I had to resort to stabbing you in the back of your shoulder to get out of it. Almost felt bad then a couple of guys from the french side totally gang-raped me, I had a bruise un...

Some people want to remove the ability of archers to yield before being struck. Others don't realize that the rules changed over two years ago, and still believe archers aren't liable to full contact. Not quite. Those who are saying full contact archers only are asking for rule changes that let hea...

Retained, but only with changes *1A1B society wide *enough power in the bow that the majority of fighters can feel the damned thing *A safe construction without a fiberglass shaft. the failure characteristics of fiberglass suck *a safe construction that doesn't mean everyone has to modify their helm...

dye before hardening or after? I'm sewing up a few demi gaunts for the family (I get to fight with my wife and 18 year old son this pennsic) and am planning on doing the 1-10 titebond 3 and water deal. should I dye them before or after the dip? I'm assuming after but any advice/tricks for my first p...

So lets go back to the old rules when a fighter gets in 10 feet we can call the CA dead. I mean since it is against the rules for the CA to fight anyway. Though i really have a problem with something that is so fragile being allowed on the field. Balin Aten 101 Fighters not Targets dont like the ol...

on that we are in agreement. that said i feelthat the guy with the bow should be expected to be able to defend himself. it is a cntact sport, the rules are the same for an archer ast hey are for me I'm curious how you'd have him do that, given that the rules quite clearly state that an archer can't...

here I have to dissagree with you. I swat flys and mousquitos that annoy me, don't you? If someone steps out onto the battlefield, that means they KNOW they can be struck with any weapon on that field. That includes the ones in my hands. I say strike any archer you engage with with authority (inser...
