I like the gambeson you have underneath, as well.

Seeing the photos I realized that we've met.. I played a couple of games with AU in '98-'99. You had a full steel rig then.

Get Robinson's Oriental Armour -- iirc, it's around 20 bucks at amazon. There is also an Osprey series book about Islamic armies during the Crusades, take a look at it for inspiration. Check out the Silk Road designs site, but it won't help you too much with the dating, just the general idea of what...

Alaric --
Do mutant knights count in that silly weapons ban? Cause Brand is so much more dangerous at war with his ax than sword and shield. And close to same in sigles.

Sounds exactly like the rules in the maille-and-plate tourney. Go ahead and check out the link Asbjorn posted.

I fought in the tournament, it worked out well.

Does Matt Furey advocate doing the hindu squats and push-ups daily or every other day? Am I going to mess anything up if I do them too often? Is it better to do a whole lot in one sitting, or do a few sets of each? Should I rest in between sets or switch the excercises (set of squats, set of push up...

Gambeson repair question

A few months ago, I bought a gambeson from Therion arms. It's a great value for the money, by the way -- good padding, doesn't bind, a bit warm and has synthetic padding, but it's cheap and comes with an arming cap. The problem I am having is that after several months of heavy (2-4 times a week) use...

I can agree with that, I think -- it's not what's in the manuals. But it's not the barndoor and rattan club hackfest a lot of WMA guys make it out to be, either.
And we still don't have a single manual for heaters.

Because we have shields. Mid-range isn't as dangerous with those.

I cut the leg out when a fighter moves in very often, timing their steps and hitting the inside thigh just as it moves into range, mid-step.

Jester -- erm, what? I thought halfswording is used primarily for thrusting at close range. I don't recall seeing something along the lines of what you describe, except when combined with a throw -- in which case it's not so much smashing someone in the face as levering them over your knee..

I disagree. Once you are at the level guys like Cuan and Logan are at, minor tweaks in the rules aren't likely to change the outcome. I don't lose to Jade, Uther, and their likes because I can't halfsword, I lose because they are better. On a side note, thank god we don't grapple. I've seen Duke Uth...
