Tactical error, Jester.. the SEM can't say anything BUT "this is not ok to do" because anything else means it's approved by the society earl marshal, hence the society is liable. All kinds of things are ok as long as you don't specifically go seeking permission, and make it clear that it's not SCA. ...

By the way.. I vist that forum all the time, the reason I didn't see your message at first was that you posted on the wrong board, you want to post on this one which is the general query board.

Doug, are you sure you have that right? Kirpitchnikov is a well-known Russian armour scholar, not a collector. He published some very important works on Russian arms & armour. Or do you mean a different Kirpichnikoff? What specifically are you looking for? I might be able to help. -Dmitriy Shelomin

SCA since '88, posing in bad armour, with neither rattan nor steel, not a knight. I'll look through it if he wants to put it in pdf format on a website, but I don't think it's worth my money.

Excellent!
Although I am a bit perplexed by the allowance of painted plastic... I keep imagining a flat piece of kydex strapped to someone's chest, painted pink.
Does this apply to plastic basket hilts too?

In any case, I think this change is very much for the better.

By the way -- this was just for the sake of argument. In general, I agree with Sir Richard. In fact, not only do I wear armour, but I got my knight, Sir Brand, to wear it as well -- and he's one that list by Count Aleric. He's very happy with that, by the way. Says he enjoys fighting so much more be...

Hi Bob, I was providing an example of a medieval tournier wearing lighter armour for the speed advantage it gave him -- the same thing that happens in the SCA. Jacques was an amazing combatant, and surely wearing armour on his leg would not have hampered him much, yet he chose to lighten his defence...
