If I understand correctly, Brodir has padding at the top of the helmet -- a padded skullcap of sorts -- and it's only the sides and back that aren't padded.. I'd reccomend that you pad it in such a way that it doesn't hit your gorget. That just doesn't sound safe. But don't worry about the sides and...

Since I am the guy who has the honor of carrying her favor, I think I get to be the president. You can be the Secretary, or the Chivalry liason.

Brodir -- thanks for the compliment, but the device hasn't passed yet. Apparently wyverns and dragons are considered to be the same monster by the heralds, which causes a conflict with 2 entities, one of which is a barony... sigh. I am planning on getting letters of permission.

Picture of my new kit (and, most importnatly, device!) from West's October Crown.

Alas, the key ingridient is missing -- my Patrick Thaden bascinet , complete with a riveted aventail.

You can get fiberglass for spears from Mandrake, I payed around $36 for 9 feet this weekend. An excercise someone who is *really* good with a spear showed me is to stand in front of a tree and to lightly hit different leaves while looking at its center. Since all the leaves are at slightly diferent ...

Ok, so there we have two "first contact" accounts -- one from Gilbert and one from Jareth -- that are exactly opposite -- and they are about the SAME practice! I really think it often depends on the new person -- it is often unclear whether the unfamiliar face at a practice is someone new, someone f...

Waldryk?

Hi guys,
A friend of mine who is new to the SCA wants to buy a relatively nice helmet to start fighting in. He was thinking of ordering one from Waldryk, but I seem to recall that this armourer, though an excellent craftsman, had some trouble meeting deadlines and such. Is this true?
