#1 with a twist -- I'm ok with heavy archers. It's people you can't touch that bother me.

Which, I suppose, could also be #4.

Artos I was there when he was finishing it up... took at least 5 hours after the helmet and the face were done to get everything to fit together right (and make the nasal -- I think he made two, didn't like the first one). It's the details that kill ya.

Wow, I confess I pronounced it "gorzhay" as well, but I just looked it up and you are right. Thanks!

One thing -- it does actually have French roots, dictionary.com says: "from Old French gorgete, diminutive of gorge, throat."

I'll try to get it right and educate others from now on.

[SCA] "Dead on the ground"

Inter-kingdom communication time http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif Out here (West) we have a practice of being able to call someone "dead on the ground" in wars -- so if you get knocked over and are helpless, an opponent can demonstrate that he has control (put a spear tip in front of you, ...

Huh. I thought they rolled the East's right flank? Or was that after the initial punch? Anyway, that was an awesome regrouping job. Regarding getting knocked over -- you guys don't have "dead on the ground" rules? (that's when if an opponent is on the ground, you present your weapon and say, "you ar...

Auto -- slightly off topic, but I wanted to ask this and didn't know anyone on the team. I saw the unbelted champion fight from the sidelines (but not very close, I was off in the pick-ups field). It looked at first like the Middle had you completely outmaneuvered, separated, and surrounded, and the...

Nothing the members of the Archive who follow Asbjorn's posts haven't seen, but I'd still like to bring it to your attention.

Amen, Duke Ronald. I was having concentration issues last practice and kept hitting to the surface on this one combatant's helm. I knew what was happening, he knew what was happening, but from the sidelines it must have looked really bad for him. I was quite sorry to have unintentionally made his ho...

Assuming a center-gripped shield.. One thing I've seen An Tiran knights do is stand "goofy-footed", lead hip cocked back for power generation (that's a bit weird at first, practice it), with the shield held at belly-button level. Most blocks are made by rotating around the shield. I saw very effecti...

That is very fine work!

I am guessing the couter is still one piece -- it looks like the weld is only on the bottom half of the couter in the inside photo (so the pattern would have a cut-out wedge that you bring together to add curvature). Am I right?

Ulrich -- "directed touch and substantially lighter than to other parts of the body" does not mean touch kill, sorry. It means it should be counted lighter (which we do). Furthermore, it doesn't say anything at all about upper limit on the thrusts (well, there's a section about excessive blows, but ...

Cedric, I meant the force. West and An Tir do full power thrusts, while if I am not mistaken, it's touch kill in the Middle.

I do agree that the tilting your head back thing is silly.

Actually, I did some more thinking about it, and as long as the rule is limited to truly debilitating injuries -- broken limbs and such, not something like a cracked rib -- I'd agree to it.
