I've a question.. on the close-up shot (pic 2) you can see a messed up ring close to the right edge of the picture; I wonder why they would weave in a ring that was punched so poorly? They couldn't possibly rivet it.

14th Century Germany?

What books or other resources would you reccomend for an introduction to 14th century Germany (with reenactment purposes in mind)?

Bojei, for fast research go Osprey. For good research, well you know the drill. I'd reccomend a nice 1350s kit. A coat of plates from the wisby book would go great with a bascinet (grill if she doesn't want a closed face, or a pigface visor). The metal bits go on the inside, the leather doesn't need...

Oh geez.. soc, a longsword == greatsword == katana for all SCA intents and purposes. It's a sword that's weilded with two hands. And, essentially, so is an unpadded polearm. Those are excellent aventails, and the price is a good 100 bucks less than you would normally pay for them (Clay, are you out of your mind or was that a typo? http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif ). By the way, this doesn't completely eliminate the possibility that it's a Viking-era helmet. Mr. Bell could be wrong. I e-mailed him for more concrete documentation.

You guys seem to clearly dileniate Roman and Greek (and I assume Etruscan) armours; I suppose no leather musculatas for those cultures either, right?

Roman armour question

Hey guys,
Is there any evidence for leather musculatas (is that the correct term?) being historical? What's the academic stance on the subject?

Thanks,
-Dmitriy
