My kit (sca)

http://history.westkingdom.org/Year36/Photos/MC17.htm

I'm on the left with the spear, wearing everything minus the helmet.

I am using a cooler vambrace now, and I had to return the baldric (it's a symbol of Queen's guard here in the West), but the rest is the same.

Fire away!

I don't know how you guys can stand fighting on a full stomach.. I usually eat some fruit, maybe a few oatmeal cookies (it's always the right time for oatmeal cookies!). *Maybe* an omelet with OJ and toast or something, but only if I am seriously hungry. Did anyone see Blade 2? I love how they incorporated armour bits (the mail shirt being the most visible) into the pack's costumes.

SCA.

Being the best among that crowd would make me lethal with a toothpick -- while the weapons and some techniques may not be historical, the understanding of "the fight" would be unrivaled.

Slowly going to your knees can take the fire out of a fight. I fight in simple cops (hidden) and our practice is in an asphalt-covered parking lot -- which mean my knee's been pretty hurt a few times, once from dropping onto it after getting hit mid-flight, the others from moving around on my knees ...

You are looking at pretty much the roughest reenactors there are... these are Russians, they are crazy.
They are fighting with speed and force.

Broken fingers are commonplace, blood and major injuries happen on occasion.

Alas, no documentation for face mask helmets during the time and place you portray. The closest is Sutton Hoo, which is way earlier, and the Nomadic helmets, which are way later. For those who didn't read Gethin's post too carefully -- Parlan is IN THE SCA, he's Gethin's knight, and recently stepped down as Prince of the Mists. .. or perhaps it's the picture quality. Mocs are better; they are not glaringly modern. They can be modified to provide ankle support -- or, if you need lots of it, wear a brace underneath, it's way better than shoes anyway. Umm bad footwear , plastic knees, plastic elbows, plastic gauntlets, a bit of white something or other sitcking out the side of the helmet, all painfully obvious. Nice mail and tunic, helmet not bad as well. Portrayal recognizable but flawed. What was your point? Sorry if this is harsh, but you did ...
