Well the weight would be in the construction details if it's available -- unfortunately I see this info very rarely. The suggestions I am looking for is other info which might be useful to a scholar -- for example I realized I needed to say where the helm is now stored only when posting the original...

Help with helm database!

Hi guys, This is sort of an unusual question.. I've decided to start a database on all known helmet finds in Russia. What sort of info should be included? So far I have the following fields: Location (of the find) Culture (attribution) Dating Construction notes (number of plates, thicknesses, all th...

Clay,
West is known for its tiny shields, don't make the mistake of assuming that what you see at Mission is a standard sort of thing.

Alas, other lands are still full of barbarians who have not advanced to our level of skill and finesse Image.

Wow, Clay, the improvement really is quite drastic, even from the last pics you posted. If I (as a non-armourer..) may make a suggestion -- try giving some shape to the fans. Perhaps add a crease down the middle, or a v, or something to decorate the fairly plain surface. Keep up the good work, I nee...

Well too late cause I am now separated from my library for a month.. I would definately suggest doing the Polovets/Black Hats face-masked helmets. The top is very interesting, and probably the hardest part of making one; it also has a face and is easily adaptable to SCA regs. For Rus helms, I'd recc...

It seems to me, hjalmr, that the problem isn't the marshalls -- it's the rhinohides!
We've already been over this on the board, but to me, what it comes down to is, it's an honor game, and judging blows by a third party completely takes away that aspect.

In the pennsic squire's tourney, I was fighting someone for a *long* time, and at some point both of us were legged and armed.. I did a rip-rap sort of thing and screwed it up, not bringing my sword up and around enough, hitting my opponent on the shoulder with the flat. He thought it was good and "...

I give the arm for an arm, because it's "accepted practice", but ask all of my opponents not to give them to me -- whether they be a duke or a newbie.
