Wow, nice work. I like how you did the top and the nazal, especially. As I suspect you post these things in hopes that someone might give you constructive criticisms, and this type of helmet is sort of up my alley.. Although it looks perfect when you are facing it, the profile seems somewhat wrong t...

[*]Tape together some newspapers and cut out a circle the size of your shield. [*]Divide the newspaper circle into eigths (folding is easiest for that). [*]Choose one of the eigths, add the concave/convex curves to it so that it forms one section of the "wave" (make sure to be even on both sides, th...

Oh, duuh... Duke Garick von Kopke is, well, a duke. He does use a grill, but he is highly authentic in other respects.. down to period padding in one helm and disguised foam (covered with linnen) in the other. Brion Thornbird is a Count, having reigned in Caid a while ago. And most definately not al...

Not to say that everyone was authentic at West Crown, but most people did look very nice.. and Janos -- there haven't been any pics posted of that event on the archive, you are confused. The last few winners of the Mists Coronet (all the ones I remember off th top of my head, actually) wore closed-f...

If you only bought/read one book, Barber and Baker should be it. Otherwise, here are some more suggestions: The Medieval Tournament, R. Coltman Clephan, Dover; ISBN 0-486-28620-7 King Rene's Tournament book, available online: http://www.princeton.edu/~ezb/rene/renehome.html The Book of the Tournamen...

A sword on a grill for some period of time to demonstrate control is all that's required here, and grappling is illegal last I checked the society rules. You say this fellow was a knight? Must have been some sort of miscommunication. Want to describe him? (Privately if you wish -- solely for the pur...

I am not for making KFB illegal for the same reason I am not for making cupping illegal -- chivalry cannot, and should not, be legislated. You never know if someone is chivalrous if they can't do anything UNchivalrous. There has to be a temptation to stray from the path. That's why we call our own b...

Umm.. Gaston.. AEMMA fights in harness, and propriate clothng (or at least they try to). HACA doesn't (didn't do any armoured combat last I checked, though I know John C got some armour recently so maybe they will start). One of the many reasons you can't judge one based on knowledge of the other. T...

I echo WMA comments.. As to the grill vs cheek plates -- since a conical wouldn't have cheekplates and a back plate in the first place (most of the time), I think that your best option is making a grill that is as close to your face as is safe (account for hel tipping this way and that, though!), an...

Well, the resounding reason is that your inner thigh is tender http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/biggrin.gif But, of course, it is much better to be able to fight out of both positions and know when to switch than to just fightone way. I do both depending on who and how I am fighting (unfortunatelly,...
