Wow, nice work. I like how you did the top and the nazal, especially. As I suspect you post these things in hopes that someone might give you constructive criticisms, and this type of helmet is sort of up my alley.. Although it looks perfect when you are facing it, the profile seems somewhat wrong t...

Ziad, Gumilev is a fairly famous author of history books, and most of that site is his stuff, things relating to his stuff, and comments on his stuff.
Not only that, he died about 9 years ago..

Norman -- sorry I can't comment, it's been a while since I read GUmilev (didn't like what I read -- I happened to pick up the Jewish theme before anyhting else), and right now my hard drive crashed, so I am using borrowed computers and can't read cyrillic too well at all.

Brand -- I think the whole sport armour thing mainly applies to mid-range fighters who try to advance not by developing better skill, but by using lighter armor (I am sure I'd be faster if I ditched the maille. But then I wouldn't look nearly as cool http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif ).

Oh, duuh... Duke Garick von Kopke is, well, a duke. He does use a grill, but he is highly authentic in other respects.. down to period padding in one helm and disguised foam (covered with linnen) in the other. Brion Thornbird is a Count, having reigned in Caid a while ago. And most definately not al...

A sword on a grill for some period of time to demonstrate control is all that's required here, and grappling is illegal last I checked the society rules. You say this fellow was a knight? I am not for making KFB illegal for the same reason I am not for making cupping illegal -- chivalry cannot, and should not, be legislated. You never know if someone is chivalrous if they can't do anything UNchivalrous. There has to be a temptation to stray from the path. That's why we call our own b...

HACA doesn't (didn't do any armoured combat last I checked, though I know John C got some armour recently so maybe they will start). One of the many reasons you can't judge one based on knowledge of the other. T...

I agree with Trevor -- Caid looks very sharp out there.

The only problem I have with Caid is that it's in SoCal (aka hell on earth, and don't argue with me, I've lived there), and that some folks are calibrated really low.

I echo WMA comments.. As to the grill vs cheek plates -- since a conical wouldn't have cheekplates and a back plate in the first place (most of the time), I think that your best option is making a grill that is as close to your face as is safe (account for hel tipping this way and that, though!), an...
