I think the main problem we face in the SCA when fighting greatsword and trying to apply fechtbook techniques is that most of the time our opponent isn't using a greatsword.. which really changes things :-).

I think what happened was some An Tir Earl Marshal took the kingdom's cultural traditions and wrote them down as law at some point. Practically everyone I've fought from An Tir still treats them as traditions, not law.

Baldewyne, I rarely see you speak so rashly and without thought. You do not represent yourself well with this. To tell you the truth, I am not sure if it is or not. Geoffrey made up the challenge for himself, before he was offered knighthood, and spoke to many people about it (the archive, for example). Then, when King Uther put him on vigil, Uther said that he will knight Geoffrey at Purgatorio, which is a ...

Wait, there's a no-corckscrewing rule in Atlantia? Does that mean no walking in circles out of range, or in range as well? Cause I could swear a few folks from Atlantia were walking circles around me when I was at Pennsic, I just assumed that's ok in your kingdm rules and tried to adjust. -Dmitriy

Right. THe rules say that you cannot strike an opponent who is prone, so if Dead on the Ground rule is in effect, you can declare a prone opponent "dead" by presenting your weapon to him and saying "you are dead on the ground" or some such.
