Sunday Melee Sunday morning all the good nobles woke and the Fellowship had food prepared again, and we broke our fast together. Several more nobles joined us who could not be in the fighting on Saturday, and I was heartened to see Duke Fabian there, for he spent the previous day in Cynagua, where ...

Fighting on the First Day It was decided that before the tournament starts, and then after every two rounds, a grand melee should be fought, and each melee was to represent some facet of the Hundred Years War. Further, all those who would compete for the honor of being named the Hundredth Crapaud h...

How the First Challenges Were Made On Saturday morning, the Fellowship had food made for all those who came to this Tournament, and once we all broke our fast, we donned our armours and met on the field. The Ninety-Ninth Crapaud, Jarl Thorfinn, stood there in his fine harness made in the style of t...

The Hundredth Crapaud is to be Held The Fellowship of the Argent Angel came together, and they saw that they know of no other tournament that has happened so many times, and indeed the number One Hundred was most impressive and fortuitous, and so they decided that the Hundredth Crapaud shall be a g...

An account of 100th Crapaud Tournament

History of the Crapaud One Hundred Months ago, a certain Knight of the West named Obadiah the Obstreperous, decided to hold a tournament every month in order to train his squires and others of his household and friends of his household, and this tournament was named in honour of that great French k...

Hm.
Parlan, you are starting to convince me.
I'll need to consider this some more.

InsaneIrish -- when, exactly, was the society limit 9 feet? I know 12s were widely used here at least 5 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual *society* limit was 12 for a long time now.

Parlan -- really, my main beef with that is that they aren't fun.
I know to look out for them, I am not any more afraid of them than a nine, my formative wars had plenty of 12s on both sides.. They just don't feel sporting.

Don't be shy -- walk straight up to people and introduce yourself, tell them that you are new, and would like to learn. Show them your armour bits, they will know you are serious. Don't be an ass, and remember that they are there to practice, so talking their ear off may not be the right thing to do...

[SCA] Changes in the last 5 years?

Stealing Amra's thread over on Legio Draconis... What significant changes to SCA fighting have you observed in the last 5 years? 10 years? Don't forget to mention your area. I'll start: Having been active for about 5 years, I cannot speak to more long-term changes. In the West, square shields and lo...

So, 12 foot spears are legal in the West. Practically no one uses them at our events, there's maybe only a couple of people who bring them out. They pretty much only exist for West An Tir. Most of us don't like them because they aren't fun.. either to use or to get hit by. The weird thing is, from t...

In my experience,, West, Atlantia, An Tir, and East are about the same in power. The variations among gentles from these kingdoms are really more due to individual fighters than a cultural thing. There was a thread on the fighting board a while back where people rated different kingdoms in terms of ...

No really you guys need to check them out again, up here in An Tir we hit harder then anywhere else, No you don't. An Tir hits as hard as other hard-hitting kingdoms, but not harder. As for the "armor" -- well, sure, it works, cover it well enough, no one would be the wiser. It probably works well ...

I didn't get wraps untill I started thinking of them as just hitting a guy with the back edge on the back of the head. For some reason that clicked for me. As far as the elbow thing goes -- try grabbing your sword and throwing (slowly) a flat snap that just hits air. Your hand will naturally turn ov...
