Clermont -- where are you these days? I haven't seen you in a loong time.

I have a very tall spike on my helmet, and I run into that problem now and then. If it gets hit hard, I take it. Most people will tell me that it hit high and I shouldn't accept it as a killing blow -- if they do, we go on. Otherwise, I'm perfectly ok with conceding the fight.

I often find that a hard cut to the shins makes sword and shield fighters wary of coming too close... But if they do want to get in close and personal, your weapon is great for leg sweeps!

Vitus -- Sir Brand is "only" a Viscount. Some of these worthy men are in this list not so much because they are outstanding individuals, but because in my mind they personalize certain Kingdom characteristics: Atlantia -- Duke Logan and Duke Cuan. Caid -- HRM Brand Lancaster, Sir Snorri, Sir Gaston,...

Get off this guy's back, it's not a big manufacturer, just a guy with a shop like many on this board. I'd check the gauge and eyeslot widths before bidding on it if I intended to use it for SCA, though. They've been increasing the gauge across the board in Eastern Europe lately, but just a few years...

Try looking for the Jaroslav (Yaroslav) helmet, I have really good line drawings and a decent description of it on the red kaganate site

I'd remove kidney protection and add vambraces unless the arm is behind the shield.

Look at the stuff on the kaganate pages.
We have fairly detailed photos of the face-mask helmets from Kovali and Lipovets there.

The armor stuff hasn't moved yet (my fault) , it's still at geocities -- www.geocities.com/kaganate

A name most of you may not know, but should surely be mentioned among these worthies -- West Kingdom's Sir Stephen of Greenwood. He doesn't get out to inter-kingdom events much (his family is not SCA, so it's hard for him), but he's phenomenal. Probably helps that he used to be a pool shark . -Dmitriy

Norse really means of or related to Norway, it's people, culture, etc.
Iceland was settled by people from Norway, so Icelanders are Norse (but Norweigians aren't Icelanders).
Sweden, for example, is it's own thing.
All of the above are Scandinavian.

Stephen von Dresden (East) leaps to mind.

For the West, I'm thinking Sir Brand MacLelland and Sir Daniel Drake.

I don't know An Tir as well as I'd like, but Thorfinn and Skeggi are both great fighters, I am surprised they haven't won one yet.
