14 gaguge mild steel Polovetz lawn dart (raised, with ridges -- it's tougher than most 14 gauge mild steel helmets). Leather chin strap attached at 4 points with leather thong, cut to fit the chin much like Eric's, I am sure. When people say chin strap -- does everyone mean the kind that cups your c...

Just wanted to clarify that I wasn't calling for active marshalling! Marshals can get involved if the guy being hit has a problem and complains. Otherwise -- if you are not getting hit and not even doing the hitting, you don't get to call the shots. If I get gacked, drop to the ground, and yell "wow...

Odo -- first off, hi . We met at Pennsic, when You, myself, and Sir Maximillian were the only ones on the pick up field. I was Prince of the Mists then, and you were both Kings. You may be right, the quote could have been "excessive face thrusts." The page is down. However, next to a rule about touc...

Pennsic MIC quoted a message from the SEM and then said "therefore, touch-kill will be the standard at Pennsic"

You mean the SEM who said something along the lines of "I am declaring a war against face thrusts"? (sorry I can't get the exact quote, it was on the pennsic 32 site). I don't think you'd get too far. Even if there are whole KINGDOMS who've never played with a touch-kill rule, have had face-thrusts ...

Thanks guys!
What do you think about the height? Too tall? It looks taller than most reproduction ones, but in line with those on the bayeaux tapestry -- but then, it's a tapestry, and it has green horses :).

How much height would you drop, if any?

First Norman Conical

My roommate Colin (aka Owen Flechyr) and I spent half the Sunday working on a Norman Conical for a Hastings portrayal we are putting together. Neither one of us is an armourer, though Colin's made some stuff before, and I have a lot of theoretical knowledge gained from reading the Armour Archive dep...

It's only the foot placement that's different. The mechanics of the body are the same -- My right (sword-side) hip is still cocked way back, even if the foot is forward.
So, really, the way I teach is show the Bellatrix stuff.

It's lighter! As in, not quite as hard. That doesn't mean a little tappity tap. I hate that stuff. "Hey I touched your face!" Good job, now try to hit it, if I wanted it caressed, I'd go find my lady..

Sedric -- no reason a list-legal helmet shouldn't get dented. It shouldn't get broken, people shouldn't suffer griveous injuries through it, granted -- but that's all the minimum armor requirements are for. That's why they are minimum. They are saying, "if you wear any less than that, chances are we...

I don't understand why hitting hard is lowering yourself. It is far easier to land a fast and clean touch than a fast and clean solid hit. It requires more skill to hit harder than to hit lighter. That's why it is easy for a fighter who comes from a hard-hitting region to adjust his calibration and ...
