Tsarnoc, What I have seen several people do is to make a chain camaille and attach it to the inside of hte helm as described. IN ADDITION - they would place pieces of leather inside the maille in critical spots (i.e. over the larynx and and the top vertabrae in the back). Your Kingdom may not allow ...

Christofre, First, are you left or right handed? I fight mostly with a kite, various sizes for different scenarios. I too will preface this with saying - I am not a Knight. I am also not, at this time, a Squire. I have withheld msot of my comments from the "So you want to be an SCA Knight?" series' for one main reason - I just don't know. I haven't been around enough to know what makes an SCA Knight a good Knight...

Ya know, I've been thinking alot about this for some reason lately. I for one have no desire to fight with live steel. Mainly because my armour doesn't allow for it. The SCA is very large, and ver ydiverse from area to area. You also can see changes in the SCA over years, and see it change from one extreme to the next. For Example, our barony used to be a great barony for fighters and people all over the kingdom respected someone wearing the iron mountain tabbar...

You Highness, Another suggestion is a field pavilion. A decent field pavilion can be made with minimal wood, the only cost is in fabric. Since the main idea is to block the sun, water-tight fabrics are not neccessary. You need 6 2x2's. 4 of them 10 foot( 120 inches), 2eight foot(96 inches). The 8 fo...

Gambesons. Real, honest-to-goodness gambesons (arming coats, etc) are easier to make than a person would think. Take a Long sleeve button-up style shirt that fits you loosely. At the arm holes, cut off the sleeves. At the top of the shoulder, cut it across, and at the sides, cut it down. Now split t...
