it seems like after every practice I play the shower game of "I hope I took that". My favorite is the shot that a buddy of mine hit me with in the tricep that was light (arm raised, it skimmed down). It was pitch black the next day.

Re: Right Leg Forward fighting style
I do sword leg forward for range as well. Moving my right hip 4 inches forward leads to the range being 4 inches longer. I also twist my upper body to sword shoulder back (or at least flush). This tends to catch some off guard if they are not paying attention. Now, for the reason I started doing thi...

I like to shake things up with my fighting. Want to work on your offense? Get rid of your shield for at least part of your practice. Yes, it will suck, but you will find an offense, if only out of necessity.

Lentner patterns?
I have been having a heck of a time finding a pattern for the German over armour style jupon with baggy sleeves that occurs around the 1370's (aka lentner). It is my understanding that there is one in TOMAR, but I can't find my copy of the book. Does anyone know of any other patterns out there? It d...

I wonder at either lam or scale skirts being worn under 14th cent English armour. The bottoms of some hems don't line up as dagging. It would help with the lack of belly armour below a chest plate.

Padded/multi-layered jackets provide a composite armour against projectiles. It will also work against cuts and thrusts, but against something that dissipates energy quickly like an arrow, it would work quite well.

Otter, (love you man, just messing with you), The easiest thing to do would be to get tablet weaving and apply it. You can then take it off a done tunic, and place it onto your next one when it's done. Embroidery was/is a lot of time and effort for a one time use. Trim thta is removable and transpla...

because we don't die when hit in the body.
A lot of decisions on what armour to wear/ how to fight/ where to stand in combat are predicated on our ability to live through losing.

I have fought in the same coat of plates since I started in 1995. It has cuir boulli plates that have since softened around the kidneys, up the spine, and up the center of the chest. As a brand new sword and board fighter, it wasn't that much of an issue, as my leg and head were open. Switching to p...

It appears that someone had the mindset of "hit what's closest". Especially when faced with an opponent of similar skill level.

There is also the issue of the completely "goal oriented" person. They get into the game, see a goal, attain said goal...then what? They have no reason to stay in the game now that they have attained their goal, as the game was just a construct where the goal existed. They move on.... Thi...

I am attempting to rein in my sarcastic jerk. I don't think we need yet another way to turn SCA fighting into even more of a sport.
A slow fight is usually about watching 2 decent opponents, which I like to watch.
