Mine is strapped vertically, and I fight it like a buckler at range, moving it vertical when closing.
Video of me getting beat up by Duke Hauoc. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Gwy ... _BT1m48_Wk when I close tight, the shield turns to "hopefully" cover the leg.

There is a bascinet study that listed the thicknesses of 2-3 original helmets. The group averaged around 3/16 thick, at the front at least. These may have been largely iron, however it is still very heavy. I will have to look through my pics. I think it was the BM that I was taking shots of a barbu...

That should help quite a bit. All pretty close. Bout what was the average height of a man in that timeframe? Any idea what the curvature of the shields were? Were they really curved as deep as on the effigies? Thanks! Christopher An average man? Or someone who had money enough for a better diet? II...

I had a couple years where I hated the SCA, but went to practice, and didn't fight, and went to events, and didn't fight much. I knew that if I quit going, I wouldn't go back. My wife and I went to a crown, set up camp, went to dinner, came back to site, and then I spent an hour or so in the car in ...

By stepping on the list, and becoming authorized, you (the 'generic you, not you Armgrim )determine the 'acceptable risk'. Plain and simple. We have minium armor that we must wear. Beyond that it your choice, based on your own risk assessment. I disagree. By reading the rules of the list, I assess ...

I have talked to 2 guys that had their arm broken in our game. 1 minimal armor, one had 2 layers of thick leather. Both moved their arm towards the stick at the point of impact (one throwing a counter, one blocking in a EMA style) and had the stick hit perpendicular to the arm. The guy throwing was ...

I use a Makita that I bought years ago, and love it. I had to replace blades after about 5 years.

Re: How do you attache your cop's to your cuisse's?
I have some RFTH Knee Cops and am making some hidden splinted gamboised cuisse's. I have gotten to the point of needing to attach the cops to the cuisses befroe I can figure out where the splints are to go and have thought of 2 options: #1 Lace them directly on through 2 holes in the top. #2 Rivet ...

There's some sort of stylistic differnce, and I am not sure if it's fashion, or art. English almost always show a heraldic surcoat. German, however, I am not sure of. I am guessing that the art is showing fashion, i.e. the Germans might have worn armour out more regularly. English effigies from the...
