Re: plackbelts??

I'm currently still in medic school so I probably won't be doing any plaque belts for a while, particularly because I have banner orders to fill at the moment. I just can't do both in a reasonable amount of time right now. :/

Re: How do you install arming points?

I took leather tabs and put small holes for stitching in with an awl, then stitched them onto the coat. The cord for mine doesn't pass through the garment itself, but rather a pair of holes in the leather. It's only stitched around 3 sides so I can remove the cords and replace as needed. http://i538...

I am 6' and the only time I ever felt like I needed anything longer than a 38" ish blade is during melee when everyone else is using a 42". I have one of those but melee is the only time I've ever used it.

How is Grettr on sizing? I am thinking down the road since I love the poleaxe so much that I should invest in some gaunts that look like that but I have skinny lady hands.

Ask his wife what she wants. Show her good pics of a variety of different styles of helm and go from there. I'm not sure what cute is in terms of a helm but I think you can certainly find helms that are beautiful and elegant.

Re: Helmet padding study

Type of padding made a big difference for me. I had just the black foam that Windrose sells in there but it was too stiff and I was getting bad headaches from even light hits. I took it out and replaced it with the bare minimum of foam and then a thin padded linen liner and have had a lot less probl...

Re: plastic armor for SCA Fighting

Padding plastic with the right material will really take the sting out. I don't know why anybody would wear bare plastic against their body. I made that mistake once, with my first kit and never did it again because I may as well have been wearing nothing at all. My current leather covered plastic b...

Re: padding finger gaunts

When I padded my finger gauntlets I just cut out finger shapes in wool or felt similar to the leather that the plates are riveted to, stitched them together in a couple of places then glued them on with a couple dabs of contact cement. Not a ton because I didn't want the glue to reduce the squishy-n...

I use 2 layers of a good felted wool. However I think a lot of it is going to depend on the gauntlets themselves.

Mine is also an Alan Bauldree helm. It's worth every cent I spent for it. You have to make sure to check your Kingdom rules in regards to helm padding. Some (at least Atenveldt I know for sure does) may have rules about what kind of materials you can use. Atenveldt for example requires 1/2" clo...

I have another question for anybody that has experience with klap visor bascinets. You can make some light weight banner poles out of stuff you can get at any hardware store for less than $20 too. I made mine out of closet dowel that I painted, one premade american flag pole and 12" lengths of PVC. That's what you see in the pictures I posted. I've used them up to about 16&qu...

The banners I make are made from 8mm china silk. You really only need a slight breeze to keep them aloft, unlike banners made from cotton or linen. The ones people want the most are like the ones posted in the picture. They're 21" x 6' or 21" x 8' for $90 and $120 including shipping CONUS ...

That's a great start for 200 bucks. :) Just make sure when you make a fitted surcoat that you curve the bottom so it doesn't lay flat when you wear it which looks weird. I am pretty sure that's what I did wrong with mine. :\
