Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)
Elections aren't going to solve the problems you mention in a lot of areas. Some groups are almost entirely controlled by a single household or clique or what have you already.

Re: Trade Review: Isabella's Silk Banners!
I just wanted to bump this so I could add to it. I am really happy with the gonfalon I got from Cillene. Dirk and Arrow gets 5's in all categories from me as well. Any time I had a question or needed something I always got a reply very quickly to my question and I got my banner very quickly when it ...

Re: Gluing fabric to aluminum shield - what glue & applicati
The only thing I hate about those painter's canvases is the ones at my Home Depot have plastic on one side. I started just getting muslin by the yard at Wal Mart instead. I had trouble with the plastic preventing good paint saturation.

Thanks Max.
Let me know what you think when you have it in your hands.
I am trying to get everybody their stuff by Pennsic so I've been working like mad when I'm at home.

Re: Gluing fabric to aluminum shield - what glue & applicati
For what it's worth, I also cover the back of the shield with felt and the same spray adhesive. It's possible the tons of layers of paint, then lacquer, and the covering of all exposed edges, contributes to greater durability. With just the gold background behind St. George Michael on Mal's shield, ...

Re: Gluing fabric to aluminum shield - what glue & applicati
I used 3m adhesive spray and had no problems with it personally. When I did Malcolm the Bold's shield the last time I used spray glue in large amounts, but then coated it in a TON of paint, then sealed it with at least one entire can of spray lacquer. The edges are the places where it's been torn up...

Re: Show Us Your Shield
I will probably take it off, trim the excess canvas that;s beat up on the edges, give it a good scrubbing then mount it on a thinner plywood shield for display.

Re: Etiquette on the war field
If you have a nice helm and you want it to look spiff you have to clean it all the time anyway. After the last Estrella I fought in mine had grass stains and dirt all over it, tape marks, rubber from weapon heads, tape, etc. A little square of tape front and back is really not all that bad. it's sim...

It will look just as jarring and weird on the wrong kind of helm as tape.

Re: Cross of St. George, Burgundian Army Pennons for sale.
Unfortunately I still won't be in a financial position to go to a Pennsic for a few years more than likely. When my husband and I are both done with school that will probably change but I'm having a hard time affording to do in Kingdom events even right now. :\ Many of the banners I've made will be ...

Re: Windrose Chin Strap Recommendations?
I had a chinstrap setup on my first helm that tied on the outside with the two point setup and I hated it, so I guess ymmv. I couldn't tie it well enough by myself and it would always loosen up. I never felt like my helm was secure on my head like I do with the Windrose setup.

Re: Windrose Chin Strap Recommendations?
I love the shape of the chin cup but I'm personally not a huge fan of how it buckles under the chin. I still prefer attachments at the temple and behind the ear. I've never had a problem with the under the chin strap slipping down to choke me. It might be the angle the strap is sitting it. I can't ...

Nope. :\ Highlands was pretty much the only event I had on my schedule and after the transmission blew up in our truck on the way, I'm probably not going to make it to anything until we can get it fixed in the fall.

Re: Show Us Your Shield
Personally I think it's cooler to have something really awesome on the field, destined to be destroyed, than just hanging on the wall gathering dust. My friend Malcolm's shield has lasted at least a year now I think and is due to be retired soon, but is still in good enough shape on the face that we...

Re: Very thick leather
I didn't have enough to do the whole thing in leather for my poleaxe, so I used 3/4" windrose eva foam in the middle of the leather sandwich and it worked great.
