Re: Repousse Lion Armour
I think there are more than 2 at least, I can remember seeing several italian 14th century guys if I remember right, who had them on their spaulders or elbow and knee cops. I was thinking about trying to in the future figure out how to sculpt leather into something similar and harden it since their ...

In the manuscript they are painted with shell gold. The blue is meant to depict the appearance of metal in natural light. If you just used shades of grey it looks flat. I can't tell you what the cops would be made out of but I know a lot about manuscript painting.

Re: Looking for some sheet pewter
You can get sheet pewter from RotoMetals too but last time I checked the prices for a similar project it was pretty expensive. :\ I was thinking about trying to find a decent sheet metal alternative that would work but I haven't gone and priced any out yet.

The Lannister helmets fill me with hate and discontent. But I looove the rest of their gear. I also just wish they hadn't put weird random celtic knotwork on things.

Also you might be able to modify your rapier gorget to make it work. Mine didn't have c spine protection for example and to fix it we just had to add a leather flap in the back and a small plate.

If you pad them well enough you shouldn't even notice it's there. Not saying it's not a design flaw but I've been smacked right on that plate and didn't feel it much.

There are tons more SCA medievalish kits out there than historical-ish ones so I think that is a bit of a dubious claim, probably more one of confirmation bias than any truth. The majority of fighters are not in historical kits or even particularly nice looking ones.

Using the dremel just takes practice. Getting the long tool attachment doodad really helps though. Then you're not dealing with the weight of the dremel while you're trying to carve something small.

You have a giraffe neck. You need a gorget that fits someone with a long ass neck. I have the same kind, which is why I wear the gorget I bought for rapier, and added c spine protection to the back. Something like this: m I have one almost exactly like it from a different vendor and I've taken spear...

Cross of St. George, Burgundian Army Pennons for sale.
I shipped a bunch of stuff today, but I also made these when I was working on orders because I needed to make some small pennons but only had big pieces of silk. So, for sale ready for immediate shipment I have one Cross of St. George banner. It's 20" square. Price is $25 including first class ...

If you look at my pics in my recent kit 3.0 posting, you can see how I patterned mine. The pattern is basically made by putting on a pair of pants bought from a second-hand store, drawing the shape on and cutting it out with the seam running up the back of the leg. I used an old pair of jeans and d...

NO documentation at all makes me nervous. The local hospital KNOWS we have a huge event. They have SEEN a bunch of us. We have fleets of ambulances visiting them. What interests me more is what Sally thinks of herself as a fighter. If she has been fighting for x number of years but still acts like a newbie and tells herself she is a newbie, she is defeating herself with self doubt before she ever steps on the field.

There are a bunch of well documented cases (some I know of from the EMS crews who ran the call) of people with broken necks walking around after car accidents. Take time to heal. Those soft collars are pretty much useless except as support for post injury healing time. If you keep getting cranked and your neck hurts you should look into the possibility that you have really injured something and go to the doctor.

Re: What does it take to compete at the top levels of SCA He
I think it takes probably the same qualities for a woman to reach the top levels of SCA fighting as it does for a man, with maybe a few extra hurdles along the way. Those hurdles really vary a lot though by individual, geographical area and access to good trainers, attitude, etc. Just as an example,...
