Taking orders for silk banners. Can guarantee for Pennsic.

I am almost through my current queue so I am opening up for new orders. Anything ordered in the next month or so I can guarantee delivery in time for Pennsic. I am currently making 6' and 8' standards, for $90 and $120. The dimensions on them are not exact because the fabric can stretch or shrink a ...

Re: How often are anvils scrapped?

I am going to hit the local scrap place as soon as I have the cash and see if I can put my name and number out there with them just in case. But honestly any big and heavy chunk of steel will do. Japanese sword makers use a square type of anvil and you can always get stakes or hardy tools to fill in...

Re: How often are anvils scrapped?

On the blacksmithing group I am on people seem to find them quite often but I think it varies regionally. I can't even find them for sale where I live at a reasonable price. I'm still looking for one myself.

I'm not saying it's a good business practice I am just saying it is a huge deal to make over a small thing. Even huge businesses like Amazon screw up or things get lost.

I have done exactly what this vendor did before. I have also had packages disappear and then randomly get delivered we...

Re: 5th peerage, a letter from a White Scarf

When everyone in the SCA is held to some kind of authenticity standard then it would be appropriate to bitch about pirates and musketeers but since the SCA is only medievaloid and largely without any rules about that you would be trying to enforce a double standard.

Re: 5th peerage, a letter from a White Scarf

I don't see rattan combat going away or being replaced any time soon. It is cheaper and easier to armor up and more accessible to people than armored rebated steel.

Re: 14th century covered armours, is linnen a good idea?

There are several surviving pieces with some fabric still attached that have multiple layers. One has a thin leather inner lining with a red wool velvet outer shell and another has at least a linen lining with some kind of red outer shell.

My old liner was 100% cotton batting for baby blankets in a linen shell and I liked it a lot. I have been debating about what the next one should be though and asking myself also about wool vs cotton vs bamboo vs flax.

Some of the builds I have seen with the Mold Max 60 product which is a silicone type and not rubber, didn't involve any vacuum stuff which is why I was going to go with it. I just haven't had the chance to try it out yet.

Re: Pewter casting in RTV

I have been wanting to do it forever because it seems in the long run like the best way to cast more complicated 3d forms and also when I am making a ton of the same thing. Sand casting is time consuming and making molds from soapstone is also labor intensive. I was going to start working with Mold ...

It's just hard to say what exactly is going on 100%. Spikes in blood pressure from exertion, too much heat around your head, cardiovascular fitness....all that stuff can be a factor. I had it happen a lot when I was less in shape both fighting and in my turnouts at work and when I worked on that and...

Re: Helm Suspension

Do you feel like you are breathing a lot harder and faster than you would be otherwise? Hyperventilation can cause headaches among other things and one of the things that happens when you feel like you can't get enough air is to increase rate and depth of breathing.

Re: Helm Suspension

A lot of people are breathing just fine in a historical visor but feel like they can't breathe because you're re breathing some of your own stale air. The only thing that can really solve that is more helmet time IMO. It is normal and often makes people feel claustrophobic and short of breath.

There's also a bunch of photos of small bits with buckles on them, very small plates and what looks like faulds, all with a lot of small rivets on them that may belong in this category but I am not positive, no always being sure of what I am looking at. They are around ref # ref_arm_4792_002

Re: New pics of an old corrazina. Analysis?

Looking back a the shoulder piece I was referring to, it looks like the stitching isn't to the shell of the breastplate itself, but on a piece of maybe reinforcing leather where the cool shoulder hinge plate is.
