Leg harness is basically done now.

I finished up a bunch of banners today so this afternoon I finished up everything on the leg harness I could. All that's left is to put the splints on the greaves, which I will be getting from Cian. Obligatory go...

Here's some more pics and the templates I made. The first pic is all three of the paper templates next to each other. I had to tape a bunch of posterboard type paper I had sitting around together in small pieces in some areas in order to get the proper shape at the top and bottom. I just kept taping...

I just think it's a mistake to base your opinion of a martial form on the gut reactions of what you were taught as a kid, or practicing it in a way which is far outside the current ruleset. Particularly when you have an impact on whether or not those arts will be allowed to be put into practice. Ha...

Yes it is. I had to do some funky pinning to make sure the silk stayed nice and straight so the cross didn't look all weird. Yours looks just like the St. George one only in the colors you requested. http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff347/isabellaevangelista/Silk%20Banners/Morgan-Wayne.png

Silk banners in stock! UPDATE

I was making one smaller banner, so I used the rest of the silk to make these. They are $25 a piece, including shipping anywhere in the continental US. They measure about 20" square and are made with the same method and materials as my other banners. I have one each of these but if there is eno...

Perhaps you could give it a try Johno and see first hand what it's like? I'm not sure if you've ever made a foray into the non rattan arts, but I think before you judge it you should try it. You will probably find it's not your thing but maybe it will help to allay some of your safety concerns.

What Ryan and Wallace were showing me was very different. No rapiers, with very different methods of attack. They used mostly percussive cuts. And if I remember correctly Wallace was using mortuary style sword and Ryan had a saber, unlike the video that was posted. You couldn't mistake it for rapier...

I don't know if I can describe it properly but when you watch two people who know what they're doing, it's definitely not rapier.

My problems stem from the historical style aspect. If we try to use only historical styles then that limits people in an area to practicing only the styles known by their trainers. Another point is fighting unorthodox opponents is referenced in a couple manuals, so by that argument not having a spe...

I tried to make mine fit the curves of the body. A straight tube doesn't fit right for one. And when you put the splints in they're not going to all be able to be the same length anyway because you couldn't bend your leg. I tried to base it off examples I found on the archive or armories where the c...

It's a 14th century kit. Here's a pic of the whole thing:

I have shamelessly saved all the 14th century pics I could find on this forum for future reference.

Covering them will make them look fine. :) Mine didn't look like much til I covered them and put everything together. Originally I did a solid cuisse but it didn't fit right. So I redid the template again and cut it into 5 pieces. I ended up ditching one piece though and went with 4.

If the types of non combat activities were not available that are now my Shire would have less than 10 members where we sit at anywhere between 30 and 50 participants at any time. And for myself I would not be in the SCA at all, which would be a sad thing.

You could probably either have them be easily removable, or you could just recess them inside the box a bit by building a little compartment or just having a gap for the wheels to stick through. I am going to go with the removable option myself, handles too probably so I can stick them inside and ha...
