Personally I think they were quibbling over the marshalling angle. I think some of them just didn't like it and were looking for reasons to reject it. When I found the one on the role of arms and changed it to a per bend sinister division there was no reason not to pass it.

If you can document it you can get away with a lot in SCA heraldry actually that would normally break the rules or that someone may not have heard of.

From what I've read so far it seems to be mostly in the context of a joust more like a duel, not multiple riders.

If two knights on horseback are charging at each other in a joust, lances lowered, with their horses going as fast as they can, what gait is that horse using? It's a good argument, but a counter-intuative one to modern people. Modern people often dismiss the innovations of more ancient history because it's widely believed that everything we do is just better.

I'm not saying it wasn't a preventable accident, just that I wouldn't call that the normal conditions that fire retardant is meant to protect against.

I have a big calcium lump on my shin from soccer. Believe me when I say that I do everything in my power to keep from even bumping it accidentally. It hurts like mad. I wouldn't want to repeatedly smash my finger bones in some weird attempt to strengthen them. I'd rather just invest in good gauntlet...

I actually found a couple places that have them in stock! I just wasn't sure if there was a proper period braid I should be using or not. If I am ever feeling really ambitious I might make some chapes myself but it's pretty far down the list right now under clothes and belts and whatnot. ;)
