Re: New pics of an old corrazina. Analysis?
I wasn't sure if the hinge on the shoulder was genuine or not. Interesting! Do you guys thing the overlap of the shell was riveted in place or stitched along the edges?

Re: New pics of an old corrazina. Analysis?
I get you. Mine will split down the front. Do you think the construction details would be very different in terms of covering and stuff?

Re: New pics of an old corrazina. Analysis?
I am not positive but it may be related to the name the photo downloaded as. I didn't rename them. I would have to save a couple things and see when I am back at the computer. There are some spots where the inside and outside are stitched together. There is a shot of the inside I believe shoulder pi...

Re: New pics of an old corrazina. Analysis?
I was talking with a few people on facebook about these photos and it looks like a layer of thin leather with a fabric shell over the top. In some of the photos you can see the fabric attached to the leather with stitching and in others it looks like the shell is stitched to itself. I have been wond...

New pics of museum piece. Analysis? (Fabric covered globose)
I am going to be assembling a corrazina type of armor soon and I want to make it in construction as close as I reasonably can to its historical counterparts but I have a ton of questions. I was digging online to try and find pictures of museum pieces to help me figure out what I need to know and lo ...

Re: Amazon needs some legs
I am 6' tal myself and I have made several pairs of splinted legs for myself. They are really low tech and easy to make. Look in this album for pics of the in progress. I used to have a write up on it but the short of it is that I used an old pair of jeans and a sharpie to make the pattern for the s...

The stuff they are making is unbelievably light and strong. If I was not going a different way with my kit I would get these in a heartbeat. I have knees and elbows from Sir Gaston and I can tell you they are worth every penny.

Re: Brigandine for SCA Combat: Leather or Wool Shell?
Bear in mind the challis corrazina faulds are completely wrong. If you're authenticity minded steer away from the trapezoid shape and get hoops or small brig type plates. Historically also they used layers underneath the fabric shell so for example the Bayerisches National Museum Corrazina has some ...

Re: SCA finger gauntlet construction?
I have well made ones that I got from Leoric 1958 here on the Archive and they are pretty awesome. They do not ground out but they are padded inside with two layers of felt or wool and I have gotten hit in the hands and fingertips and number of times without injury. I think the biggest risk is proba...

Guys I am getting my ass kicked at my real job. I apologize but I have been going in to work on a ...

Re: ISO: Padding
I pad my finger gauntlets with wool or felt. Two layers and I hardly feel a thing when I get hit in the hands by accident. Cheap craft felt works fine. I glued two layers of the same padding in to my arm and leg harness with good results also. A lot of the foams sold are too stiff to be used by them...

Re: New Project: 14th Century Harness-ish
Visibility depends a lot on the helm maker and whether you are buying custom or off the shelf. And honestly there are some kickass deals floating around on klapvisor helms and bar grill Bascinets. I have seen lately. Are you wanting to make your helm yourself or buy one? I went from a bargrill to a ...

Just an update for my customers today. I am always working on orders, usually on my day off in the middle of the week. Their stuff is solid. I know a bunch of people who have their helms. Their custom build time used to be like forever long but everyone I know said it was worth the wait. I'd have no problem ordering from their in stock at all.

My splinted legs were I think around 8oz with hidden plastic. Too thin for the leather to work by itself but for splinted defenses it was perfect.
