In reality, as a bit of an aside, a person can survive a lot of trauma to the face. One of the most worrisome part of facial trauma is possible swelling in your airway. I have seen someone ejected from their car and literally have their whole face ground off by the pavement and live through it. Whet...

I was wondering how well a wooden one staked down like that would fare. It's best to take silk banners down out of the rain anyway for longevity.

I think people watch too many movies too. Where the characters mow down opponents in numbers with one shot.

I've seen those ones and since I think I know which banners Jess wants to put up... >_>...they need to be on a sturdier base than those ones.

IMO, the riskiest weapon that we use regularly in regards to possible c-spine trauma is the 9' spear. You are never going to meet the force of a hard shot with a spear to the face with a punch.

What I would like more information on since I was planning on making something similar myself (but with different dags) is heraldry and the usage of this garment. So if there is some decent information I'd love to see it.

There is also the aspect of our game in which the large majority of participants and even most chirurgeons are not trained to treat or assess injury.

That last bit really depends on who you're talking to. There's many different camps about what combat in the SCA is supposed to represent and the debate rages on.

I think that they were made several ways but I'm not 100% sure. I've seen buttoned down the front and some jupons were laced up the side too. I am going to do buttons on mine.

I talked to him on the phone a couple of days ago and they're going to take a loot at the measurement and give me a call if they seem odd. I took each measurement several times though to make sure.

Alan Bauldree is going to be making it. I ordered it through Knowne World Treasures. I took five different measurements using some home made cardboard calipers. I also ordered one of their padded helm liners, so I am assuming they take padding into consideration. My old helm was made by the same arm...

I dunno. :( I had a friend who can weld make me a couple out of rebar and pipe. If you can't find any when he gets back later this month I could ask him if he could make some more. Apparently they're pretty easy to make.

They're spring steel and made by Sir Gaston de Clermont here on the archive. He made a matching pair of elbows and they're really nice so I want to do a good job the first time. :)

I don't get a lot of rain where I live, but I might seal them with something to make them a bit more moisture resistant because of the big wars that seem to fall during the few soggy parts of the year here.
