...I have been compiling as much hard evidence as can be found, for the practise in Western Europe, for more than a decade now. .... I have documented as many cases as I can in the mid to late 15th century (a comparitive handfull, with annoyingly sparse documentation)... I think one of the ways to ...

Baroness Deborah from Sundragon here in Atenveldt introduced me to tequila and picklejuice. They have a naughty name hereabouts. I freaking hate pickles but it's probably my favorite drink combination. Briney and delicious!

Real information about banners. I haven't been able to track down a heck of a lot and even my good heraldry books don't have much on them. :(

I was not offended by anyone's words but some statements did illicit a reaction from me. I make no claims to be a professional historical researcher or anything. Nor am I a true believer who thinks that women were awesome warrior chicks or blah blah blah during the middle ages like some would choose...

Was Jean d'Orleans a knight (chevalier, ritter -whatever) - NO, Was she a (direct) combatant - NO. Can anyone say the same about any of the other examples (or anyone else from a nation or culture where the specific term "knight" can be applied) - NO! While no one is doing it here- What I ...

Is it just me or was there a hold called, and the tool he clubbed to the ground ran up and blindsided him despite it?

Guy got what he deserved.

I think that really depends on how it's being worn. ie Properly fitted and articulated, hung from the appropriate period garments. There is a big difference between some steel plates just strapped to the body and proper weight distribution of well fitted steel armor.

You can see a few of them on my photobucket page, but I don't always manage to get pics of them before I ship them out. I have a bunch of designs up too so you can see how many it sometimes takes to nail down a design.

Our ancestors or whatever you'd like to call them, peoples from long ago, did romanticize warriors from the past just as we do today within what was to them at the time a modern context. The Nine Worthies are one such example where the idealism of later people did not exactly match up to reality.

It will actually be my second helm. My first was an older 12g mild AB Hammer sallet with a bar grill. It was heavy and a bit too big for me but I fought in it anyway since it once belonged to my good friend and peer. But last year I had to sell it to keep the lights on at my house along with a bunch...

Thanks. The reason I brought it up is that since I am a firefighter in training basically, I am not so used to wearing it that I don't notice that it's different than breathing normally. A lot of people apparently get claustrophobic in them because you only get air when you inhale in little puffs. S...

Re: Advice for fighting in a closed face helm?

I just recently bought a helm from jackie at shamrock armoury (who did a fantastic job) that is a closed face. I've never fought in one before so i'm kind of concerned about the performance differance over a bargrill. Everyone in my local area is saying that my fighting is going to suffer because o...

Also you only consume a fraction of the oxygen you breathe in. More than half is exhaled along with carbon dioxide and other stuff. It's more a matter of the feeling of having something close to your mouth and nose and a feeling not unlike claustrophobia.

Isabella E Silk Banners Update and queue openings.

Hey guys. Just wanted to do a shameless plus real quick and give a status update. This week I didn't get as much done as I would have liked. I ended up having to take a mandatory FEMA incident management course that ate up 3 out of my 4 days off. I'm back to work tomorrow. Saturday I'll be home and ...

I can't say specifically but one of the interesting things about the SCA is that culture can vary sometimes greatly from one kingdom to the next. Fighters learn techniques from people in their area or kingdom then go on to teach the same techniques to someone else. Pretty soon you can see different ...
