Re: Stolen SCA Equipment - Oklahoma Area
If it was in the trailer when it was stolen, the thief wouldn't know it was like that unless he/she was familiar with the owners.

Flying with your gear? Looking for advice.
I'm headed out to New Mexico at the end of October for some cool FEMA training and I am gonna be there from the 30th to Nov 2nd. I'm hoping to hit the wednesday evening fighter practice but I've never flown with my gear before. Everything fits into a large turnout gear bag except for my shields. I o...

Rposted on my wall. All the stuff sounds pretty distinctive. I hope they recover it. The paint job on the tent is beautiful.

Re: Review of Midwest Tent
What's it like coming from inside to outside in bright light? I am probably going to buy one of these for myself since I sold the big pavilion and will need something post divorce. The old pavilion I had was red and black and going outside was weird because everything had a blue tint to your vision....

A c-belt would be pretty weird for just knees. If it were my kit I would wear them under my pants or go with something lower profile since 4 lame knees are pretty much not viking.

For those of us who don't know anything about epoxy, what should we buy? I have some ceramic stuff with broken handles too. :/

I can press a birch shield for you. I have Dan's ridiculously over engineered press at the house. I just did a new heater for myself. Just go buy the birch and some titebond and I will put it in the press for you.

I'm just waiting until I am done with class and get moved out into my moms's. I'm too spread out between banners and work and school to deal with it. Big plans though.

I honestly don't know how well it would do in constant use. :/ I'd hate for you to spend money on something that's just not as durable as for what you're interested in doing with it.

Re: Openings in silk banner queue for the holidays.
Care and feeding of your banner. First off, these are not indestructible. But with proper care they will remain bright for years. Eventually exposure to sun and the elements though will make even the brightest fabric fade. You can prolong the life of your banner though by doing several things. Store...

It's not meant to be a platform for 100% historical garb. It would be nice if it was, but I figure at least you can try to get better information out there by posting good examples of historical garb.

Norva plastics on ebay is where I get mine. I order 1/8" abs plastic. His prices are really good and he will cut the plastic into smaller pieces to save you on shipping.

Re: Need help figuring out how to fix my shield grip.
I actually also took a piece of 3/4" EVA foam yesterday and trimmed it into a little wedge and that made it much more comfortable as well. I didn't feel like my hand and wrist were as out of alignment and curled oddly when gripping the strap. My next shield I am going to try and put on a rigid handl...

Here's some manuscript images of elbow length angel wing cotes. I believe the images are from an earlier 15th century manuscript. http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff347/isabellaevangelista/Manuscripts/CombatofLancelotandGawain.jpg http://i538.photobucket.com/albums/ff347/isabellaevangelista/Manusc...

My big thing I'm going to be working on coming up is using RTV molds to make complex 3D molds for belt plaques. So I can make them hinged!

Here's a tutorial I wrote: http://www.swordmaiden.net/home/arms-and-armor/how-to-articles/make-a-c-belt/ Pattern it to yourself. It's pretty simple. Having someone help you draw it out is handy but I did it by myself. The key is to make the belt on a curve so that when it's buckled closed it's gentl...

It might be more convenient for sure, but there's something satisfying about hand made too. Commercially I think it would depend for me on how much it cost me to get the master printed, vs my labor involved.

I was at practice on sunday but you were elsewhere, or I would have shown the new set up on this shield to you. >:P
Anyhow I am not thrilled about the flap hand covering solution so I am probably going to take the time to make a nice clamshell attachment for my new demi's when they arrive.
