Both statements are true! ;)

Uugh. I need to pay off the medical bill that is garnishing me to death right now, which is why I am trying to sell it currently.

Re: WTB: Newbie Armor

I just shortened the front and cut the arm pit areas down because you do a lot more cross body movement than they are designed for. Mine looks a lot more like the roundness at the top of an egg than how square it is in the before picture. It comes down to just below my bellybutton. The bottom is unm...

Re: WTB: Newbie Armor

Thanks. :P The cuisses and arm harness are all DIY too. In fact the only stuff I didn't make myself is made of metal. The backbrace is really sturdy. I would say it's probably 1/4" thick? It's a softer plastic, so it's flexible and takes a lot out of a shot. As a bonus they come padded already with ...

Re: WTB: Newbie Armor

If you can find one, a plastic two piece orthopedic backbrace makes a pretty awesome breastplate. I cut mine down with a utility knife and scissors, when just drilled holes for strapping and covered it in fabric. Underneath a jupon it even kinda resembles a metal breastplate. I have found them on eb...

Re: Unedged wooden shields

Given that I lack fancy tools (and time) I'll probably end up doing hose anyway. It's my first shield after all, gotta find what's right for me. :) I've got no fancy tools. I edge my wooden shields with old garden hose, then cover both sides with fabric and paint the front. You can see a step by st...

18' x 18' red and black Panther Marquee Tent for sale.

Hey all. We are selling our red and black Panther Primitives Marquee. It's been lightly used, maybe a dozen times over 7 years and looks brand new. It has no rips, leaks or tears. At 324 square feet of useable space, it's incredibly roomy. AND made for the terminally tall, with an extra 12" added to...

Nor everybody will use facebook. Some people refuse to outright. Another free option though is photobucket. That's where I keep a gallery of past banner commissions as well as on facebook.

Was this the tutorial? http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=138753&hilit=edgeless+shield+Vitus No it was a guy who had his own website and sold shields for SCA use. I don't think he made them out of plywood as I don't remember seeing any layers in the shields he made. I can't ...

Edging doesn't have to be ugly. You can just use better edging, like leather or rawhide, or cover your edging and do a nice paint job.

Re: Guide to buying your first helm

I think you can outfit a new fighter and have them not look like crap at the same time. Your head is important to protect, so buy something of fair quality. It's not that hard anymore to find a helm that is not only safe but also decent looking. If that means saving an extra month or two I think it'...

Re: RhinoLiner?

Why not just buy sheets of plastic instead? I bought 1/8" abs from this seller on ebay super cheap. I ended up with enough plastic to make almost a whole kit for 2 people. A sheet of 1/8" 48" x 96" cost me $30. He even cut it down into 4 pieces for me to save on shipping. http://stores.ebay.com/NorV...

I glue a couple layers of felt right to the plastic. I have my legs and arms padded that way and it takes a surprising amount of oomph out of a shot.

Re: SCA Armor Standard

The rules are constantly evolving based on new materials, information, construction techniques, changes in the needs of the Society, etc. They are not today entirely what they were 40 years ago. If you mean that is harmonious, then yeah, I would say the system is working as intended.

Re: SCA Armor Standard

When I learned the local guys hit me and showed me what was good, then further instructed me when I armored up and hit them. I don't think we ever even talked about the fake armor standard except that it's what the rules say. As a concept though it was pretty much unconnected to how I learned what w...

You can make the haft out of a fatter stick of rattan, plane the sides down a little, take the skin off then stain it to get something very wood like.

Taking orders for silk banners. Update!

I just finished the classroom portion of my paramedic program and I took last weekend to finish up all of my current banner commissions, so I am taking orders for banners for Pre Pennsic delivery. I am currently making 6' and 8' standards, for $90 and $120. The dimensions on them are not exact becau...

Re: Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?

I just think the standards themselves are sort of nonsensical and unnecessary to the rules themselves. The game doesn't have to change, we should just stop making assumptions about the armor everyone is or isn't actually wearing and fight like we do already without the back and forth argument. Anyho...

You can't necessarily rely on the kind of dyes banner makers are using either. Some of the dyes we use are actually paints.

When will we just accept the armor standard is a fantasy, and that it is actually clothing and a padded coif. Sigh. Personally I think we should just get rid of the idea altogether because what people actually wear isn't standard across the board anyway, and replace it with language that reflects l...

You don't need to hit anybody in the junk with a spear. You don't have to be all that strong to knock the stuffing out of somebody's squash with a spear to begin with. *shrug*

One of the links I posted gives you a run down of a full kit for several different budgets using reputable armorers and some elbow grease.
