Simple. Let go of it. Under SCA tourney rules, he has to give it back to you. You have just deliberately disarmed yourself. Your options are to draw a backup weapon or yield. 2. The blade of a weapon may not be grasped at any time, nor may it be trapped in contact with the fighter’s body as ...

Our current system is a way to select a leader. It has pluses and minuses. I can live with. This idea is another way to select a leader. It has pluses and minuses, and I can live with it, too. I could even live with it if, at the end of a King's reign, there were a big ceremony in which he held a dr...

I know that you can technically do that according to the rules, but I think deliberately using a non-target area as a shield is a no-no, at least in terms of one's honor. It would be like raising your knee to catch a thigh shot. For myself, I of...

Alric, Apologies, you are correct. I was not addressing the issue as you raised it: Armour inspection as a part of authorization. But the question of debate is not whether or not accuracy is a good thing, or even whether or not we should always be constantly striving for better impressions. The ques...

Just a thought: When putting Avalon together, we had to decide whether we were going to ban plastic or not. The decision made to date was to allow it, but to consider plastic to be essentially not there. As such, you cannot call "light" on blows against plastic armour. So far, it has been a fairly p...

No defaults at events. When an instance of combat is run at an event, you identify a time and location in history for the combat and state what the combat rules are for the day to evoke that time and place. Just by slightly raising or lower the number of counted blows and changing instant lose rule...

While I applaud the attempt at trying to make a more realistic rules set, I would second the idea that they should just do away with the fighting from the knees and just call the leg shot a killing blow. It is simple and easy to manage in a melee/battle situation. In truth, this will be the result o...

Don't go for linen-like; go for linen. We don't want linen for its appearance, but for its qualities as a fabric. It wicks away sweat and wears well. It seems to sun dry very well.

Of course, I'm prejudice; I seem to be allergic to dang near every artificial fiber made. Drives me crazy.

Anyone interested in making a few extra bucks for Pennsic? I am flying in from Japan and don't want to have to tote everything on the plan. Would anyone be interested in making a heater shield, broadsword, and longsword (bastard sword) for Pennsic pickup? Name me a price.
