Er, Alan, I'm having trouble telling if you are joking or not. I mean Ashcraft/Baker -- "A/B" -- it's not a huge leap. Maybe not imaginative, or terribly well-advised, given the number of AB armourers out there, but still reasonable. I do a modest amount of business with Kelly on behalf of our newbi...

Weasel-Chick and I had a blast in Hong Kong. It was a nice-looking city and the fighting was great fun. Lance was a good host and Alfred, Kalun, and Dominic kept me intertained with lots of sword work. They even tolerated my habit of going off on wild-eyed rants! And man, the food... oh the food! I ...

Brian said: I find that Fiore's positions tend to be pretty close to the body, I think this is supported by the treatise. I think this facilitates the turnings that generate power and define the footwork. If you look at Vadi.. he illustrates many of the same positions but they are markedly more "for...

Brian, So our understanding is similar. Excellent. In that case, did I err on my observation from the videos? Where I am armed only with a sword this means putting the sword in to close the line (and, preferably, to simultaneously create a threat that my opponent must respond to) before entering. With a swo...

Our current KEM does not permit the study (not fighting, study) of such things. I am hoping to convince the new KEM that such study is safe (as demonstrated in the Midrealm, East Kingdom, and many non-SCA organizations) and desirable. Does not allow the study ? Nah, keep the gauntlets; just add thumbs. If you added reinforced thumbs to your guants I would have no problem recommending your kit to new members. Although your basic strapped guantlet is interesting, it would not allow the fighter to grapple or, in the SCA grab other pole weapons in a fight.

The good news for Avalon is that we already have options for many of the rules Brian suggested, plus the added advantage of living in a country that isn't generally very litigious.
