The haft on this one is a bit short, but you could add your own haft to make it whatever length you desire. But an ordinary hiking staff , in my opinion, would be just as effective against small predators and have the added advantage of reach. Also, if you hit some "protected" species with...

Noble and worthy words! I salute Lord Gofanko in this Deed, in which to my regret I am too far away to take part. I salute also his Lady Wife, Olivia Francioso. It is truly noble and evidence of true love for a lady to stand so long beside a fighter. And this is from one who has had the blessing of ...

When you say "not spike topped," do you mean it does not have a thrusting spike at the end of the haft, that would be pointing upward when the hammer was stood up on its butt-end? At Pennsic a couple of years ago, I found a warhammer that was so well adaptable to a walking stick (cane) tha...

The account indicates that the waistcoat was in a wearable condition, though not entirely finished, in about a day. That woud be some job to do all those eyelets. That may be the nature of the incompleteness, thinking about it. "Sir, I've only done about half the eyelets . . . " How do you...

What Archivers are coming to War of the Wings III?

War of the Wings III will take place 10-12 October in south-central Atlantia. Although it's an interbaronial war, it has attracted fighters from other kingdoms. This one is likely to draw over 1000 people. The weather forecast is promising . . . So who from among us Archivers is planning to attend?...

How About a "Gazette" Forum?

I don't know if there's any protocol for suggesting forums on here, or if we're even supposed to do it, but I've noticed a lot of posts recently announcing the results of Crown Tourneys, recent and upcoming knightings, and suchlike. I would think a "Gazette" forum would be an ideal venue f...

I'm thinking that this is a waistcoat of 4 layers of linen canvas, covered in silk tafffeta that has been pieced through with a considerable number of small eyelets.... To make a doublet "that could bear a thrust" and then pierce it all over with holes does not seem logical. Do you read &...

I'm sorry, but using road-sign stuff and such really cheapens the game. I dislike that kind of stuff, even though I might momentarily find it amusing. Myth: The small opening with a hinged cover in the visors of some helms were to enable the wearer to blow a horn.

In fact: They were to make it easier for him to breathe in the time leading up to a battle or during lulls.

And that wasn't all. Philidipedes had made the run to Sparta the day before, and returned early on the day of the battle to report that the Spartans, due to some religious or superstitious rule, could not send troops to assist the Athenians. Then he fought the battle, in the standard Greek hoplite a...

90 inches . . . seven and a half feet.

There was a knight in Atlantia who would fight with a greatsword of extreme length, the maximum allowed: Either 7 or 7-1/2. It looked ungainly but he had the dynamics figured out and used it very effectively.

We've been using the Kongs that are essentially cylindrical with conical tops and bottoms as mace heads here in Atlantia for some time, but it's been a long time since anyone's even tried a morning-star.

Two unlike objects like that is not a really correct style. Mediaeval heraldry championed symmetry

Two hawk-lures would be good, or two hearts, or two roses. Or you could put a rose between a pair of lures, hearts, etc.
