Ah.
I'm working on a flagpole design that would be adjustable for height. I was going to make its top height 1 foot taller than the allowed height, to try and get away with it, but could bring it into compliance if confronted.

Is it telling you that they fought in inferior or old-fashioned armour, as evidence of poverty? While the members of the religious military orders eschewed ornamentation, their armour tended to be of the best quality because they knew it would make them more effective militarily and as such, was not...

Sable three pallets argent, and on a chief gules a lion passant argent. You've got a problem with the chief gules on the sable shield, though. A chief is a charge, not a field division; so it's colour on colour. If you swap the tinctures of the lion and the chief it would work: Sable three pallets ...

It wasn't originally Baldwin . . .
Hark the herald Baldwin screams Don’t put blues on top of greens Or and argent, that’s all right Metals and tinctures do not fight Not a field of highland plaid Keep it simple, please, my lads Azure, vert, purpure and gules Must follow all my herald’s rules Hark the herald Baldwin screams, &q...

These are some images that were linked in another thread. The focus on that thread was heraldry, but you can zoom in and see the helmets of just that description worn by a lot of the soldiers, especially horsemen and billmen:

ERROR! Got my merds wixed up!
I'm afraid I've been using the term incorrectly.
What I'm looking for is side rings. I called them a pas d'ane because someone referred to them that way years ago and I never really questioned it.
Thank you all for the references.

WTB Greatsword Quillons w/Side Rings* (SCA)
Once upon a time I had a set of GS quillons that included a pair of semicircular rings that partly filled the space between the quillon arms. Problem was, they were not sufficiently robust and the welds kept breaking. After a lot of rewelding, I finally cut the rings off. Does anyone make GS quillon...

Glastonbury chairs are wonderful but they're hard to make and they're bulky. I have made a couple of four-board chairs - they're heavy, though, and not all that comfortable. We still use some directors' chairs but they're rather too modern for some applications, still, they're less glaringly modern ...

So the fabric would go over the top of the helm like a hood? Since I have neither a great helm nor any intent of acquiring one, I need to figure out how (or if) I can wear the torse and/or mantling appropriately. I'd hate to tell my Lady Wife that all her efforts were for nought, but if it is, so be...

[D]ished rounds are horrible war shields. Use a Roman scutum; it's much better overall.(massively bias) Sure, a scutum is an excellent war shield if that's your view of the game. But some very successful warfighters used dished rounds. And many like them for tourney fighting too. I think it would t...

WTB Gauntlets for GS/PA (SCA)
I currently fight two-handed weapons in a pair of Phoenix Armoury gauntlets. I find that in them, I'm subject to small bruises. They protect me from serious hurt but I keep getting tagged, bruises on the fingers and the back of the hands. Also, the thumbs are not enclosed. I need a pair that will ke...

Also in Shakespeare, such as Viola in Twelveth Night , where she disguised herself as Sebastian, her brother. There are several instances in Shakespeare of a woman disguising herself as a man - and since female roles in the Bard's own time were played by boys, I guess it would fit. There must've be...
